Brainstorm is an American film carried out by Douglas Trumbull and left in 1983.

Synopsis

Two enquiring brilliances, Lillian Reynolds and “Mike” Brace succeed, after years of research, to develop a kind of video tape recorder which makes it possible to record all the emotions and the feelings (5 directions) felt by an human being. In the same way, the printer record makes it possible a third person to revive these same feelings and even beyond what the scientists imagined: memories hidden with deepest of the neurons of the human brain. Like any invention, it has a dangerous potential and what interests the army very quickly, which does not go without revolting the purist and integrates erudite who is Lilian. Mike, separated from his Karen wife who works with the service design of the same laboratory, saw an love affair with Lilian, both carried by the enthusiasm of their invention. Lilian, enquiring tireless, one evening when she works solitary and tardily in her laboratory, is sudden victim of an heart attack. Submerged by the pain, it does not manage to compose the phone number of Mike but, into erudite exaggerated, has the reflex to record its death. All collectings, and a priori , the last of Lilian, are espionnées by the soldiers with the complicity of Alex Terson, director of the research center, for a hideous project of washing of brain called “Brainstorm”. Mike, who wants to view the band-will of Lilian, runs up against the refusal of Alex who it congédie. With the assistance of Karen, it assembles a stratagem to remotely view the invaluable recording by ruining the security systems of the research center…

Comment

The film prevails by the portrait of erudite Lilian Reynolds, incarnated truer than natural by Louise Fletcher into enquiring inveterate bequeathing to its partner the recording of his death and thus revealing to him the ultimate feelings of a body and a brain which dies out then the take-off of a heart, fantastic and poetic theory of the scenario writers. One can even say that the special effects become secondary then. The most interesting remarks are nevertheless what the system manages to achieve: to reveal the most secret feelings of the human brain, which makes it possible in particular the couple Mike-Karen (Walken - Wood) to be reformed by reviving their hidden and always intact emotions respectively. The couple exceeds the human contingencies to be combined in order to discover, costs which costs, the legacy scientific and in love made by Lilian not only with Mike but also with beneficial humanity. At any time, the film is not heavy or tedious. Humor is combined with the action in the déglingué research center where the guards threaten the robots become insane as if they were human beings. In addition to the unforgettable service of Louise Fletcher into enquiring baited, Natalie Wood is very moving in its ultimate role, wife definitively devoted to the heart of her husband and, consequently, to that of the woman whom he loved. Christopher Walken is completely credible as a scientist transcended by his voyage by procuration with the country of the dead hearts…
