Braga is a city and municipality (in Portuguese: concelho or município ) of the Portugal, located in the District of Braga and the Northern area.
Geography
The city of Braga is crossed by the Rio Este. It is bordering:- in north, of the municipality of Amares,
- in the east of the Póvoa de Lanhoso,
- in the south-east of Guimarães,
- in the south, of Villa Nova de Famalicão,
- in the west, of Barcelos
- and in the North-East, of Villa Verde.
History
The city has a long history of more than 2.000 years. Under the Roman Empire, it probably bore the name of Bracara Augusta in Latin because rested by the emperor Auguste in the neighborhoods of -16. With the creation of the conventi by Vespasien, it became capital conventus bracarensis and gradually acquired an economic and religious importance in the North-West of the Iberian peninsula.It was connected to Asturica Augusta , today Astorga by the Roman way Via Nova (n° XVIII).
Braga accepted its Charte (" foral") in 1537.

Roads: Braga has a peripheral which makes it tower of the city in 2x3 ways, limited to 70 km/h, like 2 tunnels.
N101 crosses the city of north to the south with important a 3 km length tunnel which crosses the downtown area to move towards Fafe to the South of the city, it is in 2x2 ways.
A11 highway which leaves the east of Braga and which circumvents the city by the east and will join until Guimarães. It is in 2x2 ways.
Religion
Braga is the seat of the Archidiocèse of Braga directed by the archbishop of Braga which carries the old title of Primat of Spain. Most known of the archbishops of Braga was the brother Bartolomeu back Mártires.The city sheltered, of 561 with 563, the I {{er}} council of Braga, then the II {{E}} council of Braga in 571.
The title of “Primat of the Spain S” is traditionally disputed between the archbishop of Braga and the archbishop of Tolède (Castille).
It there also a Cathedral of Braga.
Sports
Braga has a team of Football evolving/moving in Superliga, the Sporting Club of Braga, domiciled with the municipal Stade of Braga. The city is also famous thanks to its club of handball, the ABC (Andebol Braga Club) which was illustrated by many championships like by a final of C1 in the middle of the Nineties.
