Brachypelma

The Brachypelma includes/understands Araignée S Mygalomorphe S of Central America and of the South. These species are noted for their very slow growth and their extreme lifespan.

ATTENTION: the mygales are not mortals! However, they have a whole a venom which one cannot withdraw unless mutilating them mortally. They indeed have need for their venom to immobilize and prédigérer their preys, this is why it should not be thought (and to believe a salesman without scruples) that venom was withdrawn to make the mygale inoffensive! Certain species are provided with a rather effective venom which can make pass to the victim of very bad moments! Thus read attentively the cards of each species. But contrary, one should not fall into the psychosis: one can have spiders while acting in a responsible way, with a species which corresponds to your level of experiment.

Brachypelma have rather effective irritant silks, and the young individuals often rub the abdomen when they are disturbed. This is why, if it rubs, carefully close again terrarium to let spend a few minutes.

BRACHYPELMA SMITHI

Description: it is about a really splendid mygale which, unfortunately, is victim of its success since it is in the process of disappearance and placed in appendix 2 of the Convention of Washington. All the yielded individuals must be accompanied by one QUOTE or an invoice attesting its licit origin. It has the cephalothorax (medium of the body) black with the edges clear chestnut; its abdomen is black with clear hairs, and the femurs and tarsi are black. The patellas are red orange, one the third of the orange tibia, the black remainder, with clear hairs. It has a squat aspect, and can reach a sizeable size if it saw, as that is often seen, between 15 and 20 years (even more), of more than 17-18 cm. This species can be handled, but one should not forget irritant silks which it has: those have the same effect as the itching powder, but they remain much longer hung. Thus avoid frightening it so that it is not scraped.

Maintenance: The mygales like the reptiles, are poïkilothermes, i.e. that they cannot live in a way prolonged at too low temperatures, even if they are more resistant than the reptiles a priori. A hygroscopy equal to 60-70%, and temperatures of 26°C will be necessary the night and 30°C the day, with a heat gradient if possible which will enable him to profit from several temperatures in its habitat: you would see whereas it affectionate heat, to pass the majority of its time close to the hottest spot. Prefer a heating by heating cord (or hotplate), which you will put if possible outside terrarium, on a wall, to avoid the accidents (burns or excessive dryness of the installation). If the cord is not very powerful, you can lay out it inside, but always on a wall rather than on the ground. As the mygales do not require very roomy installations, it is necessary not to put heat by the ground, because you could avoid only the whole of the substrate, in all terrarium, that is to say hot (too much hot), thus helping fast development and unverifiable parasites. In substrate, prefer the peat of sphaigne, which generates a negligible number of parasites: you will be able to thus change it 2 to 4 times per annum only, if you regularly maintain the habitat the mygale (to withdraw the remainders of meal for example). You can also use certain substrates for reptiles which will have to be more often changed. The mygales require for a normal cycle day/night, however they are often more active the night, when all is calm and that it can leave their nest.

Food: insectivorous (crickets, cockroaches, locusts), the mygale can eat all that moves. However, the insects are sufficient
