Brachychiton

Brachychiton is a kind of 31 species of trees and large bushes originating for 30 of them in the Australia and for 1 of New Guinea. They are sometimes called tree-bottles . It is a kind of the family of the Sterculiaceae . The studies of fossils in News-Wales-of-South and New Zealand show that they existed already with the Tertiaire, 50 million years ago.

They measure between 4 and 30 meters in height and some lose their sheets in dry season. Several species have a trunk pansu, bent, used to store water in dry season. The sheets can be simple, whole, webbed or lobed. They measure from 4 to 20 centimetres length and broad.

All the species are Monoïque S with male flowers and female flowers on the same tree. The chalice, in the shape of bell, is strongly coloured in the majority of the species. the female flowers have five Carpelle S séparésqui give each one a fruit containing several seeds. the color of the flowers is variable with the species. The species which push in estperdent their sheets before flowering but those of the drier areas keep them.
