Bréguet 941
Bréguet 941 was a Avion s.t.o.l of the French manufacturer Bréguet.
This four-engined plane intended for transport civil and able to take off in less than 200 meters made following the prototype Bréguet 940 implementing the technique of lift increasing by puffed up wing .
The wings are equipped with spreadable double shutters until an incidence close to 80° and the propellers of large diameter (4 meters) blow the aerofoil on all its scale.
Multiple tests in Soufflerie had shown the interest of the solution but the 4 Hélice S were to be inter-connected to ensure a regular blowing on all the aerofoil. The prototype made its first flight on May 21st 1958.
In spite of promising flights of demonstration and a licensing agreement with McDonnell Douglas, only some specimens were built for the Air force and the principle did not have a continuation.
Four specimens of series were taken into account by the French Air force. They remained in service during a rather short time (of 1967 to 1971.)
The capacities of short takeoff remain still unequalled today by the transport aircraft in service.
The only video document showing this plane seems to be episode 7 of series 2 (thus the 20th episode in all) of the series the Knights of the Sky, with Jacques Santi and Christian Marin. In this episode, the transport aircraft used is Bréguet 941. The images make it possible to have an idea of its capacities of short takeoff.
