Boxoferrophilie

The boxoferrophilie is the name given to the Collection of the Boîte S in Fer and tinplate.

The first iron boxes appeared at the beginning of the XVIIIe century, and it is the industrialization which saw developing marketing in great quantity of limp out of iron. Before packing were out of wood, out of paperboard, fabric…

As of the years 1900 empty iron packing was used like container for all other produced according to the format. For example limps it of cookies empties was used as limps with sugar because the format corresponded exactly; and the conservation was much better in iron than in the paperboard. The decorated box was often an operation marketing for the salesman.

From 1950 to 1980 with the development of the plastic boxes (see Tupperware), the obsolete iron boxes pass from the kitchen to the garage then in the market of the secondhand trade.

Series of multi-stage boxes: it is about a series of boxes of identical form but of decreasing format. The complete series includes/understands from 4 to 9 limp, of salt (approximately 4 cm) to the flour (approximately 22 cm). These boxes exist in other materials (porcelain, or hammered metal for example). The other ingredients are varied. One can find mainly: sweeten, coffee, tapioca, the, salt, pastes, chicorey, spices, or pepper.
Boxes rarer: with handle, of form basket, orthogonal, moneybox, the shape of boat, train, house…

Anecdote

In the film worship the Uncles flingueurs of G.Lautner in 1963, the hero takes an iron box under the sink and unpacks a revolver. This box is a clay crusher of the Basque one. It will be necessary to wait the years 1970-1980 so that the posting of the Marque S in the cinema or on television becomes voluntary and generating of sometimes enormous contracts at the point to weigh on the scenario.
