Bouzigues
Bouzigues in Occitan Bosiga is a common French, located in the department of the Herault and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Its inhabitants is called Bouzigauds.
Geography
Commune located on northern bank of the Basin of Thau related to the the Western Mediterranean.
History
At the origin “post-sygium” (after the Sphinx) indicates, while coming from the Mer, the holding located after the Montagne of Sète which resembles an animal lying. Another etymology would indicate a site in waste lands.
Inhabited with the whole beginning by Sinning S living in a troglodytic way in the excavations of its shore, this village was then farmer and was made a reputation in cooperage.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, according to a method in suspension taken again in addition, developed there the culture of the Coquillage S (Huître S and mould S) distributed under name BOUZIGUES.
Today still this culture remains the motive fluid of the economy to which tourism bound.
