Bouteville

Bouteville is a common French, located in the department of the Charente and the area Poitou-Charentes.

Geography

History

  • the castle of Bouteville , set up in fortress by the counts of Angouleme to face the invasions Vikings, is occupied by the English during the Guerre One hundred Year old.
  • Under François I {{er}} the field passes to the Montmorency - Bouteville.
The current castle, which replaced the medieval fortress, was set up between 1594 and 1624 per Bernard III of Béon of the Masses and Louise of Luxembourg. The family of the Masses preserved it until 1725. It passes then to Henri de Bruzac Hautefort. This family preserves it in her turn until 1787 dates in which the seigniory of Bouteville is incorporated in the prerogative of the Count d' Artois (Charles Philippe future Charles X). Put under sequestration during the emigration of the count d' Artois it was then used as prison and was sold like national good only in year XI. The purchaser, Antoine Marcombe, are resulting from a middle-class family of Bouteville. After the Marcombe family which kept it during all the XIXe century follow one another the XXe several other owners of which De Joyet and maintaining the commune.
  • the priory is founded at the 11th century by Geoffroy Taillefer, count of Angouleme.

The school is a RPI between Bouteville, Angeac-Charente and Bonneuil.

Bouteville accommodates the nursery school and Angeac-Charente and Bonneuil the elementary schools.

Places and monuments

  • the church Saint-Paul and Saint-Pierre, was founded at the beginning of XIe century by the girl of the lord of Bouteville.
The Saint-Paul priory completely disappeared today. The church suffered much from the wars of religion. The current monument represents less than half of the monument of origin. It was restored in the years 1620 per widowed Louise of Luxembourg of Bernard III of Béon of the Masses lord of Bouteville.
