Boussu

Boussu (in borain, alternative of the Picardy , and in Walloon Boussu-dlé-Mount ) is a common French-speaking of Belgium located in Walloon region in the Province of Hainaut, with ten kilometers of Mons and French border . Boussu is located in the Borinage, area famous in the past for its field.

Etymology

Just as its neighbor, Hornu, this commune is extremely old and the history of Sainte Waudru mentions there the existence of a church at the 12th century. In the acts of the past, Boussu conquers extremely various titles: Buxutum, Bussuth, Bussut, Bossut, Boussut. However the etymology is extremely simple. History

The commune is already occupied with prehistory with the Lieu-dit Saint-Anthony (Boussu-Wood) and in Boussu-Center.

In 768, under Charlemagne, Boussu bears the name of borough, which seems to prove the existence of a castle.

The history of this village reveals more than one important fact.

At the 13th century, there was in Boussu a strong castle, which had one hour of glory… warlike, with XV E and 16th centuries.

The children of Regnier to the Length-Collar, after the Battle of Fibulas in 974, strengthened themselves in the castle of Boussu. Most of this village formed a concerning important stronghold county of Namur and which belonged successively to the families of Boussu, Ramignies, Fountain, Hennin-Liétard and Caraman. In 1478, the castle of Boussu is taken by Louis XI.

the funerary vault of the lords of Boussu being next to the Saint-Gery church of Boussu-Center whose first stones were posed at the 12th century and who was altered at the beginning of the 16th century.
