Bourgonce

Bourgonce is a common French, located in the department of the the Vosges and the area Lorraine. Its inhabitants is called Bourgonçois.

Geography

Almost entirely surrounded by forests, Bourgonce occupies the high valley of the Valdange, a left affluent of the Meurthe. It opens in north towards the common neighbors of the Room and Nompatelize, but only the other transportation route leads to the Red-Water and the valley of the Mortagne by the collar of My Rest (514 m).

History

The October 6th 1870, the battles of Bourgonce opposed the French troops of the Dupre general to their counterparts Prussian of the general Degenfeld, avant-garde of the army corps of the Werder general. Neglecting the state of tiredness of his men, the French general made start two steering columns of Étival. He was quickly countered by the Germans who went up the Meurthe in direction of Saint-Dié and had to beat a retreat. Manpower were comparable, approximately 7000 men on both sides, but the German field artillery made the difference. The French losses were established with 846 killed, wounded and disappeared, the enemy showing only 431 men out of combat. The Dupre general folded up himself in direction of Bruyères by the collar of My Rest.
