History

Bourganeuf (" new Bourguet ") its creation must with a commandery of Hospitaliers of Saint Jean Jerusalem (some say of Templiers, but nothing is less sure) at the 12th century. This commandery became later on the seat of the large priory of Auvergne, which was transferred to Lyon in 1750.

Bourganeuf however preserves important vestiges of this large priory: the conventual buildings (become the current town hall), a tower built by Jean de Lastic in 1530, which shelters the tourist office today, the Midsummer's Day church (), but especially celebrates it " Zizim" turn; whose history deserves that one is delayed there.

History of " Zizim"

In May 1481, with died of the Othoman emperor Mehmed II, the conqueror of Constantinople (1453), its two sons, Jem (Turkish: Cem, marked Djem), called " Zizim " by Europeans and Bayezid II, dispute the capacity. Demolishes twice, Djem puts itself under the protection of Hospital of Midsummer's Day of Jerusalem at Rhodos. It is received by the large Master Pierre d' Aubusson the July 30th 1482. Treated with respect, but as an hostage, it is led, under the guard of Guy de Blanchefort, is become large Master of the Language of Auvergne since 1476, in the county of Nice, in the Dauphiné, and finally at Bourganeuf, sits of the large priory of Auvergne, where it will remain in captivity of 1486 with 1488 in the tower built with his intention, which still bears its name " francisé".

Piles Moslem (it carried out the pilgrimage of Mecque), fine well-read man, Turkish translator of an epopee Persian, poet at his hours, his stay in France gave place to many legends. One lends to him with Sassenage (Dauphine) and in the Walk of the incredible love affairs, just as one believed to have to allot to him, with George Sand and others, the clothes industry of the tapestries known as of " the Lady with the unicorn " today preserved at the museum of the Middle Ages (old abbey of Cluny, Paris).

Djem will leave Bourganeuf the November 10th 1488 to be given to the pope Innocent VIII. It arrives at Rome the March 13rd 1489, and will have as a residence the castle Saint-Angel. In 1494, the pope Alexandre VI Borgia will be constrained to give it to the king de France Charles VIII, entered to Italy, and which considers, since the kingdom of Naples, a " croisade" in Greece, possession of the Ottoman Empire. Djem will die in 1495 with Capoue, under conditions ever elucidated. Its skin will be brought back in Turkey to be buried in Brousse, where its tomb always exists.

The " fairy électricité"

The town of Bourganeuf was the third French city to receive electricity in 1886. But the brook of water of Orchard, which had accommodated the dynamo of its first factory, were too low during the summer of 1886 to correctly feed the 60 lights of Bourganeuf. One then decided to use the Cascade of Jarrauds height a 14 meters and which, it, could ensure a largely sufficient production, but was distant of Bourganeuf of 14 km.

After three years of studies, and a year of work of July 1888 in April 1889, the installations of the factories of the cascade of Jarrauds and Bourganeuf, were the first in France where one transported the electricity at such a distance. The installation included/understood a water turbine of 130 CV with a generator of 100 CV. The electric cable which connected the two sites had a diameter of 5 Misters On puit thus to carry out a public lighting of the streets city, town hall, church, coffees, etc) with 106 lamps. To crown this technical prowess, the first Téléphone of the area connected the installations of the cascade and the villeLa first use commercial of the telephone in France went back to 1879..
