Boulevard des Dames
The boulevard of the Ladies is a street of Marseilles which connects the Porte of Aix and the Joliette.
This street owes its name with the Marseilles ladies which had intervened in the defense of the city in 1524 at the time of the seat established by the constable of Bourbon. They would have met on a bastion which was named “ Bastion of the Ladies ”.
Among the women who were present to defend the city, one would have found:
- Vento,
- the Blackberry,
- Fortia,
- Cauvet,
- Bausset,
- Roquevaire.
It was the August 7th 1805 which the municipal council decided to take again the project of the Préfet Charles Delacroix which consisted in joining the Porte of Aix and the port while following the layout of the ramparts of the time. This layout allowed the boulevard Ladies to join the Boulevard Belloy, a bishop of Marseilles died in 1805.
With the boring of the Imperial street, the boulevard Belloy was moved to allow the prolongation of the boulevard of the Ladies until the Joliette.
