Boulevard Sérurier

The boulevard Sérurier is a boulevard of the 19 {{E}} district of Paris. It is part of the “small belt” (or “Boulevards of the Marshals”).

The boulevard leaves the Rue of Belleville (Porte of the Lilacs) and passes by the doors of the Pre saint Gervais, Brunet and of Puppet before arriving at the Boulevard Macdonald, on the level of the Canal of Ourcq. It has a length of 2  550 meters for a very variable width (from 15 to 40 meters).

Its layout is atypical enough for a boulevard of the Marshals.

Indeed, on the level of the Door of Puppet, Northern side, it is duplicated, and it direction south-north passes under the peripheral.

Moreover, to the south of the Door of Puppet, the boulevard moves away towards the center from Paris, while the main road of circulation in continuity with the boulevards of the Marshals is done on the boulevard of Indo-China, then the boulevard from Algeria. The two boulevards meet on the level of the Hôpital Robert Debré, where the Sérurier boulevard becomes again the main road of circulation.

This curious layout makes it difficult to follow, as well on a chart as on the ground.

History

It received its name of the count Jean Mathieu Philibert Sérurier (1742 - 1819), Marshal of France.
