Bouin is a common French, located in the department of the the Vendée and the area Pays of the Loire. The inhabitants of Bouin are the Bouinais (be) .
Its name comes from a " agricultural domain; Bono" villa; Gallo-Roman time.
Geography
Bouin is located in the middle of the Breton Marais located on the axis Nantes - Noirmoutier. The salt activity was the principal activity of Bouin a long time (Bouin were the producing commune of salt of all the Breton Marais) Today the Ostreiculture (180 owner, Oyster S the Vendée Atlantic) and the aquiculture became the principal activities of old the saline Marais S.The communes surrounding Bouin are Moutiers-in-Retz, Bourgneuf-in-Retz, Wood-with-Céné, Saint-Gervais and Beauvoir-on-Sea.
History
Before 1789, Bouin belonged to the évêché of Nantes, it belonged to the common Marches of Poitou and Brittany raising at the same time of the Poitou and the Brittany. In 1471, it was burned by French soldiers who came to make the war in Brittany. Coming from the south, it burned the first Breton parish which they met. It was thus Isle de Bouin. In 1789, its representatives asked, in vain, that it be attached to the department Loire-Inférieure. It was attached all the same to the department of the Vendée.Bouin has beautiful old residences, such as the old castle of the Seneshal of Poitou (behind the church), old the Présidial (become the town hall) and the hotel of the Seneshal of Brittany (in Grand' Rue).
Before the creation of the Dam protecting the Breton Marsh from the Tidal wave, Bouin was on an island: the Island of Bouin. Thanks to the dam there was a empoldering with the ground profit on the Baie of Bourgneuf.
In 2003 is built 8 wind S on the polders of Bouin. These wind mills are among the first installed year France. Since them became true attractions bringing the Touriste S on the dam, in the marsh of Bouin and with the Port-of-Nozzle. They are able to supply 20.000 hearths.
