Bougouni
Bougouni is a city of the Mali, chief town of circle in the area of Sikasso, located at 170 km of Bamako and 210 km of Sikasso.
In Bambara, Bougouni means “ small box ”.
History
Bougouni was the 14th commune created by the French colonizers with the French Sudan. July 10th 1894, Bougouni becomes capital administrative with the installation of its first administrator, the lieutenant Gouraud. The town of Bougouni held an important bottom of the colonial files which disappeared in a fire at the time of the events of March 1991, putting an end to the dictatorship Moussa Traoré.
Geography
Bougouni profits from a climate of the soudanien type.Its surface is of 700 hectares. Bougouni counts 30.000 inhabitants, primarily Peuls and Bambaras.
Bougouni is the capital of the area of Banimonotié (which means between the Bani and the Mono one, two rivers which cross the city).
Bougouni is twinned at the French city of Aurillac.
The circle of Bougouni includes/understands the communes of Bladié-Tiemela, Bougouni, Chantoula, Danou, Debelin, Defina, Dogo, Domba, Faradielé, Faragouaran, Garolo, Keleya, Kokelé, Kola, Koumantou, Kouroulamini, Meridiela, Ouroun, Sanso, Sibirila, Sido, Tiémala-Banimonotié, Wola, Yinindougou, Yiridougou and Zantiebougou and account 251.987 inhabitants.
