Boucherville is a city located on banks of the St-Laurent, located at a score of kilometers of the town of Montreal.

Boucherville was founded in 1668 by Pierre Boucher. This last is originating in Mortagne-with-Pole in France. After having lived Quebec and Three-Rivers, Pierre Boucher will be established on the seigniory of the Islands bored with the autumn 1667. It is there, on banks of the St. Lawrence which it will found Boucherville. The first church of the village will be built in 1670. This wood building will be replaced by a stone building in 1712. About nothing of this building is known. The church Holy-Family that we currently know will be built on her site in 1801. It will be strongly damaged in the fire which set ablaze the heart of the village in 1843.

Some families will leave Boucherville at the XVIIIe century to found the communities of Holy-Julie and Saint-Bruno-with-Montarville.

The village will be a vacation resort at the end XIXe, beginning XXe century. Montréalais will be able to reach it by train or cross bar. The hotel of Boucherville, on the edge of the river, finds its origin at that time.

Boucherville will make great strides pronounced after the Second world war. This growth will be fed by the construction of the Louis-Hippolyte-Lafontaine tunnel.

Boucherville has now nearly 40.000 inhabitants, and a large industrial park.

Districts

The Quartier Harmonizes is located between the boulevards of Mortagne, Montarville, Montbrun and Normandy. Its development is rather recent and zoning is primarily residential, where many houses of prestige were born. Many parks and green areas in addition to one network developed cyclist strew the district. The multipurpose center of Boucherville is also established there.

The District of the cities and provinces of France is located between the streets of Normandy, Gay-Lussac, Ampère and the Montarville boulevard. Its characteristic is that all the park and street names evoke cities and provinces of France, from where the name of the sector. A developed cycle network traverses the district, which is primarily composed of one-family residences or jumulées houses. Several constructions are of victorien type and coloured well.

The Vieux Boucherville is the district of origin of the city where the old village and the church Holy-Family are found. One can locate it approximately vis-a-vis the river, between the boulevards of the Extremely-Saint-Louis, of Montarville and Montbrun. Several constructions are classified like monuments of the historical heritage. The Boucherville Old man is also delimited by the rail of railroad which divides new Boucherville of the Boucherville Old man. This sector comprises especially hurdy-gurdies families.

The Industrial sector of Boucherville covers the western portion of the city on both sides of highway 20, being next to the city close to Longueuil. It is divided into 3 distinct parks. Although the inauguration of the parks took place in the years 1960, it is during the two last decades that the expansion was most important. The number of companies present in the industrial parks passes from a little more than one hundred to the beginning of the year 1980 per 6000 employment with nearly 600 at the present time for approximately 15.000 employment and this, in various sectors. Moreover, the industrial parks lodge two research centres (the Institute of Industrial Materials of the National council of Canada Research and the Center of Technologies of Natural gas). A good portion of labor employed is thus informed and qualified.

The Seigniory , residential district, is in the quadrilateral formed by the boulevards Fort Saint-Louis, of Mortagne, the street of Brouage and the Industriel boulevard. The construction of the district goes back to the beginning of the year sixty. The center of purchases “the Seigniory” was used to him as center of attraction, with its “modern” trade, of which a store of Dominion food, an imperial branch bank of trade Canadian, a pharmacy, a smoke den, and a consulting room of doctors. (Today, this center is less and less run, being given the extraordinary expansion of the shopping malls on other side of the city, containing an Ikea in particular.) The construction of the district will follow initially the axis formed by the street of the Islands bored to the golf, for then extending on both sides during the score from following years. The district is served by two French-speaking elementary schools, Of Broquerie and Pierre-Butcher.

the field Sabrevois is a district built with beginning of the year 70 in the east of the boulevard of Montarville, between the streets Samuel-of-Champlain and Jacques-Cartier. The contiguous part with the boulevard of Montarville is built on an old marsh (now embanked) which was emptied in the brook of Broquerie.

Demography

With the rise in the prices of the houses, the residences known as of “prestige”, very popular in suburbs, are less and less accessible. The town of Boucherville starts to know a deceleration of the increase in the population.
