Bouafle

Bouafle is a common department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France, in France, located at 17 kilometers in the east of Mantes-the-Pretty.

The name of “Bouafle” derives from the Latin , boscus , wood, and of Germanic, esparto , country of wood.

Its inhabitants is called Bouaflais.

Geography

The commune of Bouafle is located in the valley of the the Seine. It is bordering on the Flins-on-Seine in the west, of the Mureaux in north, Ecquevilly in the east and Bazemont in the south.

It is served by the secondary road D113 which connects Paris to Caen, by the Autoroute of Normandy (A13), as by the Départementale 44 which connects it to Mureaux

In its southern part, the commune extends on part of the Forêt of Alluets.

History

  • Site inhabited since the Gallo-Roman time.
  • Territory having belonged to Xe century with the Abbey of Saint-Germain-of-Meadows, which establishes a priory there.
  • the soil was formerly dedicated to the culture of the Vigne (a bunch of grapes in the blazon of the commune points out it).

  • Saint Martin's day Church: church of the 17th century, whose bell-tower was rebuilt at the beginning of the 18th century.
