Botanical garden of San Francisco
The botanical garden of San Francisco , called Strybing Arboretum formerly is large a Botanical garden located in the Golden Spoils Park San Francisco. It extends on 22,3 hectares and includes/understands more than 7.500 species. It is the largest botanical garden of the west coast of the the United States.
It is presented in the Années 1890 per John McLaren, but construction starts only in 1926 after Helene Strybing bequeaths funds for her creation. The plantation starts in 1937 thanks to new funds, buildings or WPA, and the botanical garden opens officially in May 1940. Since it belongs to the Golden Spoils Park, it is controlled by the town of San Francisco, but SF Botanical Garden Society (formerly the Strybing Arboretum Society ) manages the Helen Crocker Russell Library off Horticulture , the sales of monthly plants, the educational programs for children and adults, as well as a bookstore. The Company leaves also funds for new projects and restorations of the garden.
