Borssele

Borssele is a village of the commune Dutchwoman of Borsele, on the peninsula of Zuid-Beveland, in Zealand.

Borssele counts: 1452 inhabitants (2007): it is one of the average villages of the commune.

In the village, the hillock called is Berg van Troye , a vestige of the castle of the lords of Borssele dating from the 13th century. Another curiosity is the mill De Hoop in Verwachting (“the hope and the hope”) frame towards 1714.

What strikes in Borssele, in fact the groundwork of the strictly symmetrical streets was allotted in the past to Simon Stevin. Research however showed that Cornelis Soetwater is the originator.

In the North-West of the village are the Nuclear plant of Borssele and company COVRA ( Centrale Opslag Voor Radioactief Afval ), charged to store the radioactive waste ultimate.

The village of Borssele is written with two S , while the commune of Borsele spells only with one S , the two toponyms having the same etymological origin.
