Borsele

Borsele is a commune of the Netherlands, in the province of Zealand, on the almost-island of Zuid-Beveland. It counted: 22355 inhabitants at the January 2007. The name of the commune is written with only one " s" : it should not be confused with the locality of Borssele which is written with two " s" and which belongs to the commune of Borsele.

History

The common one was created in 1970 following the fusion of the communes of Baarland, Borssele, Driewegen, Ellewoutsdijk, 's-Gravenpolder, 's-Heer Abtskerke, 's-Heerenhoek, Heinkenszand, Hoedekenskerke, Nisse, Oudelande and Ovezande. Lewedorp and Nieuwdorp belonged to the old commune of 's-Heer Arendskerke, while Kwadendamme depended on Hoedekenskerke.

Transportation route

Since March 2003, the Tunnel of the Western Scheldt connects Ellewoutsdijk to Terneuzen.
