Borough-Léopold (in Dutch Leopoldsburg ) is a common Dutch-speaking of Belgium located in Flemish Région in the province of Limbourg. Its total population is approximately 14.500 for an total surface area of 22,49 km ². The commune is located in Campine.

History

Borough-Léopold is especially known for its barracks and its training ground of the Belgian army. The installations were built on order of Léopold Ier of Belgium in 1835 to deny oneself the troops Dutchwomen. At the base, Heppen and Borough-Léopold belonged to Beverlo. This is why the camp was also called Camp of Beverlo .

Industry in 1850 was made up of a brewery, of a mill with flour, a distilling of juniper. Later a company of manufacture of candles, a company of tobacco and a port arrived on the channel. The Belgian manufacturer of sport scar of mark Edran is based in this city.
