Borgia is the Italianized name of the family of Borja, of Valencian origin (Spain), which had a great political importance in Italy of the 15th century. It provided two popes, like several other characters, of which some acquired annoying re-elected.

The Borgia family underwent a black legend forged by her political enemies. Borgia were marked shovel-mixes with poisoning, fratricides, incestes… This legend contributed to make of Borgia the symbols of the decline of the Church at the end of the Middle Ages.

  • Its nephew, Roderic Llançol I of Borja , joined it in Italy where it took the name of Rodrigo Borgia' . He was pope under the name of Alexandre VI of 1492 with 1503. He had several illegitimate children:
  • Francisco de Borja there Aragón, powerful prince of the Siècle of Spanish gold, viceroy of Peru of 1615 with 1621, which was also a writer.
