Borders of Israel

The Frontières of Israel definite and are not recognized in a unanimous way by the international community. They were modified on several occasions since the creation of the State in 1948. The borders with Egypt in south-west then with Jordan in the east were the subject of agreements recognized by the two parties. On the other hand, the borders with Lebanon and Syria in north, and especially with Palestine always feed the regional tensions.

At the end of the 19th century, the movement Zionist militates for the creation of a Jewish State in Palestine. In the context of fight between nationalisms Arab and Jewish, several solutions will be proposed. November 29th, 1947, the General meeting of the United Nations votes the Plan of supposed division of Palestine to define the borders of the future States Jew and Arabic of Palestine.

This plan is rejected by the Palestinian Arab and the Arab Ligue but is accepted by the Jewish Agence. As of the shortly after the vote, the civil war bursts in Palestine.

After the birth of Israel (May 1948)

May 15th, 1948, the shortly after the Declaration of Independence of the State of Israel, several States of the world, whose the United States and Soviet Union, recognize de facto Israel in the borders envisaged by the Plan of division of UNO. Following the Israeli-Arab War of 1948, these borders evolve/move. UNO and the majority of the Western countries recognize Israel in the territories fixed by the lines of armistice of 1949. These borders are not recognized by all the Arab and Moslem countries. One generally referred there like “the borders internationally recognized of Israel” or “borders of 1967”, insinuation, of before the war of 1967.

The Six Day old war (June 1967)

In June 1967, following the War the Six Day old, Israel takes the control of the the Sinai, of the Gaza Strip, the the West Bank, of Jerusalem-Is and of the Golan (including the Fermes of Chebaa).

  • the peninsula of the the Sinai was evacuated completely in 1982 following the Camp David agreements with the Egypt.

  • Of the revisions of the border with Jordan was applied following the Peace treaty israélo-Jordanian in 1994.
  • the Gaza Strip was evacuated unilaterally during the summer 2005 , .
  • the the West Bank was annexed in 1967 and Israel made of “Jerusalem reunified”, its “eternal and indivisible” capital. This annexation is recognized by no country.
  • the Golan, and this including the Firm of Chebaa, was annexed by Israel in 1981.

In synthesis, the borders of Israel today are the internationally recognized borders to which are added Golan and Jerusalem-is unilaterally annexed by Israel. It militarily occupies part of the West Bank and control also the borders and the airspace of the Gaza Strip but is not present any more in the zone.

The border between Israel and Egypt extend from the gulf of Aqaba to the Gaza Strip. Except for the littoral areas, they are mountainous arid zones located between the desert of the Negev and the desert of the the Sinai.

Israélo-Jordanian border

The border between Jordan and Israel is divided into two by the West Bank. In north, it begins a few kilometers in the south from the lake Kineret, the level of the mouth of Yarmouk and follows the Jordan. In the south, the septentrional part of the Dead Sea is shared between the two States then the border follows a straight line to the gulf of Aqaba.

It is about the lowest border of planet.

Israélo-Lebanese border

The israélo-Lebanese border extends on a ground undulating and raised between the Mediterranean and the Tripoint where it joined the border between these two countries and Syria.

It east governs by the agreement of armistice of 1948, between Israel and the Lebanon.

Between 1982 and 1985, following the Operation Peace as a Galileo, Israel occupied of the territories in the south of Lebanon.

These territories remain under indirect control of Israel until 2000 following the occupation of a “security zone” between the Litani and the northern border of Israel by the Armée with Southern Lebanon, a allied Lebanese Christian militia of Israel.

Following the israélo-Lebanese Conflict of 2006, the Israeli soldiers operated terrestrial attacks in certain zones of Lebanon then withdrew themselves on arrival of the Lebanese forces and FINUL for replacing there in accordance with the Résolution 1701 of the Safety advice of the United Nations.

If the movement Zionist then later David Ben Gourion had asserted that northern Litani serf of borders for Israel or that one founds a Buffer state between Lebanon and Israel, nothing indicates that Israel wanted to annex these territories and any official step made forever in this direction.
