Bordello baroque
Baroque Bordello is a French group formed in December 1981 by Weena Truscelli (song), Alain Frappier (guitar), Gilles Pradinas (battery) and Gilles Bourges (low). A name come from a song of the Stranglers, an inspiration inter alia picked at Patti Smith, Siouxsie & the Banshees or at Joy Division, a short collaboration with Lol Tolhurst of The Cleans which brought to them a whole fringe of the hexagonal romantic Gothic population of the time: the Bordello Baroque were one of the groups emblématiques of the Parisian years “cold” new wave. It is in London that the group recorded its first disc, maximum “the Today” which Lol Tolhurst produced artistically, founding member of the Cure. However, according to the dires of Alain Frappier (guitarist), this prestigious nudge in the right direction really did not help with the popularity of Bordello Baroque: “did the journalists ignore us since the beginning and the assistance of Tolhurst did not change large-thing there? Our concerts attracted just more clones of Robert Smith”. In 1985, it is with a new formation (Weena with the song, Alain Frappier with the guitars, Path Griffiths playing of low, Michael Rushton - future Innocents! - in the battery and Pascale Meunier with the keyboards) that the group joined the label Garage. Two albums (“Via”, in 1985 and “Paranoïac Songs” in 1986) transfer the day then. Forsaking post-punk a little rigid its beginnings to approach other universes (as on “Marie Chinese” who from an Eastern starting climate passes to a Chinese popular song) and other languages (French or German texts), Baroque Bordello known at Garage (the studio becoming almost a research laboratory musical) its most adventurous period artistically. It is after having recorded one 45 turns at Polydor, " Never Like Home" , more adapted to the format Signal 50, than Bordello Baroque, then become Baroque and reduced to three members (Weena, Griffiths and Frappier), separates in 1988.
