Boom

On a boat, Espar fixed or retractable pointing in front of the boat. Used for a long time on the old sailing ships, it is again used more and more on the modern sailing ships. Today it is often used for to very establish a sail in front of the boat, like Tangon of Spinnaker.

It is also called jib boom or boom .

the boom is maintained into transverse by " moustaches" , and into vertical by a " under-barbe".

NB: To not confusing with the Beaupré which is a Mât on which was assembled the jib boom and sometimes second: the stick of covering joint-jib.
