Geography

History

Bonnencontre, formerly Villey on the Saone, owes its name with a Good Meeting (it is the name which was employed to indicate a combat) which would have delivered in 1391, Philippe the Bold one, Duc of Burgundy, with a band of frightening flayers, which foamed the Valley of the Saone and which it would have exterminated on the spot.

At that time rose a Strong House which had been built in XIIe century with the current site of the church. This one in its part of the chorus is not other than a vault which will become the vault of the splendid castle-extremely built in 1430 per Marguerite of Vienna. It was partly destroyed in 1636 by the Croats of the Austrian general Gallas, during the Thirty Year old war. Today it does not remain any more like vestiges but: the vault of the castle, chorus of the current church (XVe century), and ground monticules marking the site of the turns.
