Boniface de Castellane (1758-1837)

Boniface de Castellane (complete name: Boniface Louis Andre - Marquis de Castellane), born in 1758, deceased in 1837, colonel of dragons, is appointed of the nobility of the bailliage of Châteauneuf to the General states of 1789.
During the Revolution
At the beginning of the Revolution, it has the rank of colonel. In 1789, it was elected appointed with the General states by the nobility of the bailliage of Châteauneuf-in-Thymerais, in the Perche.
It was one of the first of its kind to be joined the Third state and showed a liberal very measured at the beginning of the session, but it did not approve the strict measurements voted against the emigrants as those which struck the ecclesiastics.
It took part in the debate on the Déclaration of the human rights and the citizen and mainly formulated Article X of the Declaration concerning the freedom of the religious opinions. A rough discussion made him withdraw the freedom of the worships of its motion which contained nothing any more but the following article: " No one should not be worried for its opinions religieuses". After other amendments and amendments to an amendment the final version of Article X was adopted on August 23rd, 1789 in these terms: " No one should not be worried for its opinions, even religious, provided that their demonstration does not disturb the law and order established by the loi." In 1791, it was named brigadier but gave his resignation after the Journée of August 10th, 1792. Favorable to the Revolution at its beginnings, it supports the Declaration of the human rights and the Citizen and the freedom of culture and conscience, asking the abolition of the lettre de cachets and refusing with the King the capacity of veto. He was imprisoned under the Terreur and was released after the fall of Maximilien de Robespierre the Thermidor 9 An II (July 27th 1794).

Napoleon i appointed it prefect of the the Low-Alps and did it baron d' Empire.
Under the Restoration
In 1817, Louis XVIII of France the promoted general one and did it Pair France.
He marries Adélaïde Louise Guyonne of Rohan-Chub. The marshal of Castellane is their son.
