" Bonaventure of Périer S, one of the figures most characteristic of the French letters of the XVI° century, continues to pose, by its destiny of man and writer, ds enigmas which is far from being revealed. After a humanistic formation of , it collaborated in 1534 in the translation of the Bible of Jacques Lefèvre d' Étaples, appeared in 1535, and worked with Etienne Dolet, which prepared its Commentarii linguae latinae . In 1536, it entered to the service of Marguerite de Navarre or (of Angouleme), sister of François I {{er}}, in the capacity as manservant. It published poems, defended Clément Marot. In 1544 appeared a Recueil of Works of fire Bonaventure of Périers : its death thus goes up with 1543 or 1544. According to a text of Henri Estienne of 1566, of Périers would have committed suicide while throwing itself on its sword.
A tradition going up with Henri Estienne in 1566 allots to him the paternity of Cymbalum mundi ( Carillon of the world ), French , with four poetic dialogs, ancient, merry facts and facetious , its most known work. Published with Lyon, in 1537, this work was seized by order of the Parlement, and was destroyed. The Cymbalum was supposed to be addressed by Thomas of Clénier (the incrédule) to Pierre Tryocan (Anagramme of Believer). The assumption of Bonaventure of Périers would make emanate the work of the medium evangelic of the entourage of Marguerite de Navarre. Other assumptions locate its origin at the Sorbonne, which would make a Pamphlet of it directed against the reformed evangelists and . Lastly, others see in this work the work of an atheistic author practically which, in a series of Allégorie S, ridicules any form of belief and knowledge, at the same time catholics and Protestants.
Of Périers is a storyteller with the charming style, full with spirit and smoothness. It takes again tradition of the popular tales, but also with the Italians and François Rabelais, short satirical anecdotes (apologues) which brocardent them through individual and abuses of power of any kind.
He wrote under the pseudonym of “Thomas Of Clénier” (anagram of Thomas the incrédule) and collaborated under, that " Eutychus" (Bonaventure), with various work on the holy books.
