History
Formation
The principal singer Jon Bon Jovi (John Francis Bongiovi) started to play of the piano and the guitar at the 13 years age, playing of the songs of Elton John. At the same age, it founded its first group, called Raze. At sixteen years, Bon Jovi met David Bryan (David Bryan Rashbaum) at the school (Sayreville War Memorial High School) and they founded together a group of R&B, named " Atlantic City Expressway". In spite of their young age, they played in various clubs of the New Jersey. Still adolescent, Bon Jovi played in the group John Bongiovi and the Wild Ones, turning in clubs of the New Jersey and ensuring the first part of more known artists of the area.In summer 1982, it obtains an employment with the studio of recording whose his/her cousin Tony Bongiovi is the joint owner, the Power Station Studios, located at Manhattan. Bon Jovi recorded there many demonstrations (including one produced by Billy Squier) and sent them to many recording companies - but was not able to be made hear.
At nineteen years, Jon Bon Jovi knew its first experiment of recording of disc, by singing the song " R2-D2 We Wish You has Merry Christmas" written by Meco Monardo and Daniel Oriolo on an album of Christmas in the universe Star Wars, Christmas in the Stars , produced by Tony Bongiovi with the studios Power Station.
In 1983, a local radio station organized a contest to discover young talents without contract. Bon Jovi engaged of the musicians of studio to play the piece " Runaway" (written in 1980). The guitarist on this piece is Dave " Snake" Sabo which founded later the group of hard rock Skid Row (later, Bon Jovi them took along in round with them to ensure the first part of their concerts). After its victory with this contest, the piece will become a tube during the summer 1983. The musicians of studio who helped Jon Bon Jovi to record " Runaway" were known under the name of " The All Star Review " and included/understood Tim Pierce (guitar), Roy Bittan (keyboards), Frankie LaRocka (battery) and Hugh McDonald (low).
Bon Jovi now imperatively needed a group. The future members had already crossed in the past, but they would meet for good only in the current of the month of March 1983. Bon Jovi called upon Dave Bryan which, in its turn, called upon Alec John Such and Tico Torres.
Many guitarists followed one another until the arrival of Richie Sambora. Alec John Such insisted at Jon Bon Jovi to let Sambora show what it could do and Bon Jovi adored. Before joining the group, Sambora had turned with Joe Cocker, had played with a group called Mercy and was to audition for KIS
Tico Torres was also an experienced musician, he had played for Miles Davis, The Marvelettes and Chuck Berry. On the whole, he had already played on twenty-six albums of various artists.
David Bryan was a natural recruit. He followed the courses of the famous school Juilliard School, the prestigious music school of New York.
The Eighties
Bon Jovi was from now on a group and when it ensured the first part of the group Scandal, it drew the attention of several recording companies in particular of PolyGram, with which it will sign a contract. With the assistance of a new business manager Doc. McGhee, the first album of the group (album éponyme) left on January 21st 1984. The album was sold with more than 500.000 specimens in the United States and also left to the the United Kingdom. The group ensured the first part of ZZ Top the Madison Square Garden (before even the exit of its first album) and of Scorpions and KIS in Europe.
In 1985, the second album of Bon Jovi 7800° Fahrenheit left, but the reactions are mitigated. The British magazine metal Kerrang! , which had had very positive reactions concerning the first disc, qualified the album of " pale imitation of the Bon Jovi which we learned how to know and learned with aimer". Jon Bon Jovi itself recognized later that could and should have been a better disc.
The third album Slippery When Wet , propelled the group to the row of superstar everywhere in the world with successes such as " You Give Love has Bad Name" , " Livin' One has Prayer" and " Wanted Dead gold Alive". Bon Jovi affirmed that the album was thus named in reference to the famous American road panel, but Bryan gave this version to explain the title of the album: " During the recording of the disc, we often found ourselves in a club of striptease in which incredibly attracting young women rubbed mutually with soapy water. They became thus slipping and nobody was able to clutch them, even if you wanted very of it. “Slippery when wet!” shouted one of enters us and the other members knew immediately that was to be the title of the new album! At the origin, we thought of putting a photograph of a large chest, a really enormous chest on the small pocket but when an association of protection of morality (directed by the woman of old the Vice-président of the United States of America Al Gore) discovered it, we had troubles. We thus transformed the small pocket to do something of décent" of it;.
The album was sold with more than 12 million specimens from its exit end 1986. During the round which followed, the singer Jon Bon Jovi started to have vocal difficulties. The very high notes and the timetable charged threatened to damage its voice definitively. Thanks to a vocal trainer, it succeeded in overcoming these difficulties but tends, since, singing a lower tone.
The following album of Bon Jovi, New Jersey , left in 1988. The album was recorded little of time after the round of Slippery because the members of the group wanted to prove that they were not the men of only one success. This album is one of the favorites among the fans, with tubes such as " Bad Medicine" and " Lay Your Hands One Me" who always appear in good place in their song recital. Nevertheless, New Jersey failed to mark the death of the group because they set out again in round almost directly after that, very heavy, of the preceding album. This life permanently on the roads almost destroyed the very strong bonds which linked Jon Bon Jovi and Sambora. The group, despite everything, succeeded in being left there and started a pause deserved well before their effort following studio.
The Nineties
Between 1990 and 1992, the members of the group made their way each one on his side in order to ressourcer before the writing and the recording of their following album. This idle period in summer made profitable to determine how Bon Jovi was going to adapt in the world of the music in perpetual evolution. Jon Bon Jovi recorded an album solo, the original soundtrack of the film " Young Guns II" (in which it appears during less than one second), more commonly known under the name of " Blaze off Glory ". Prestigious guests made an appearance on the album - Elton John, Aldo Nova, Little Richard and Jeff Beck inter alia. This album went commercially and received criticisms very positive. The title éponyme, " Blaze off Glory" , in Jon a nomination with the Oscars in the category Meilleure Song was worth, although it did not gain the price this evening, the song received a Golden Globe the same year.
Sambora also left an album solo, in 1991, entitled Stranger in This Town . This album was mainly influenced by the blues and, although it was received by the criticism and the aficionados of the guitar, it was not very well sold. Eric Clapton made an appearance as a guitarist on the song " Mr. Bluesman". David Bryan recorded the original soundtrack of film of horror The Netherworld . Torres avoided the world of the music in general. Such fell off motor bike, it was left there with a wound to the hand, obliging it to develop novel methods to play of its instrument.
The group made its great return with the album Keep the Faith in 1992. The album made show through a sound and words more mature than any of their last efforts. The critics and the fans were also positively surprised and the album was a relative success, in spite of the rise to power of the movement Grunge. Its most known pieces were individual the " Bed off Roses" , " Keep the Faith" and " In Arms" Thesis;.
In 1994, Bon Jovi left an album " best of" heading Cross-country race Road , which contained two new pieces: " Always" and " Someday I' L Be Saturday Night" , as well as a new version, setting with the last style, of " Livin' one has Prayer" called " Prayer '94" and available only on the American versions of the album. The song " Always" was written at the origin for the original soundtrack of the film Romeo Is Bleeding , but after having seen (and hated) film, the group decided to refuse to give the song to the producers and to rather leave it on " Road" cross-country race;.
Little time after " Road" cross-country race; , Alec John Such decided to leave the group. Today still, of the doubts persist as for its negative image to leave. Although it officially was never replaced, Hugh McDonald was used as bass player since, as well in studio as during the concerts.
With the album of 1995 Thesis Days , Bon Jovi still developed the maturity of its rock'n'roll already present on Keep the Faith . The album, as a whole, was darker than preceding works of Bon Jovi, which had an significant impact on the sales and this, in spite of excellent criticisms. Only " This Ain' T has Coils Song" succeeded in rising in the heights of the American classification and the album was sold only with " seulement" a million specimens. Nevertheless, the round which followed was a resounding success. It is during this round that the group played three evenings of following closed counters to the Wembley Stadium in 1995. These concerts are particularly memorable because it is this same weekend that the album reached the first place with the British classification. These dates were filmed and can be seen on the DVD entitled Live From London .
In 1996, Bon Jovi was established as being a major group in music industry, having had a higher longevity (and more success) than the majority of its pars of the glam rock'n'roll of the years 1980. At the end of the round Days Thesis, the group decided once again to make a pause. Tico benefitted from this occasion to continue its passion for painting, David to write and compose several musical comedies. Richie, used to him this idle period to write and record its second album solo, entitled Undiscovered Soul , and left in 1998.
Jon remained some time far from the world of the music and turned to Hollywood. It held the main role in the films Little City and The Leading Man and of the secondary roles in Moonlight and Valentino, Homegrown and U-571 inter alia. Between the catches of these films, Jon has writing what would be its second album solo, Destination Anywhere, left in 1997. The album received criticisms very positive and was a success a little everywhere in Europe. A short film of the same name was filmed at the time of the exit of the album, entirely based on the songs of the disc, the actors of this film included/understood, inter alia, Jon Bon Jovi, Demi Moore, Kevin Bacon and Whoopi Goldberg. Dave Stewart of Eurythmics played of the guitar on this album.
Bon Jovi met in 1999 to record the song " Real Life" for the original soundtrack of the film EdTV . David Bryan, who had been wounded with the hand during an accident of do-it-yourself, could not take part in the turning of the clip, the group thus used a silhouette out of paperboard of him to hold his role.
The years 2000
After a pause of almost three years, during which several members worked on independent projects, Bon Jovi met in 1999 to start to work on their next album. Crush , left in 2000, and which was an enormous success everywhere in the world, in particular thanks to individual the " It' S My Life " , written in collaboration with the famous Swedish producer max Martin. This album quickly became the greatest success of the group since Keep the Faith and made it possible a younger public to discover Bon Jovi. The round, which began this summer, included/understood in the beginning an about sixty dates but, because of the new popularity of the group, was extended until the summer 2001. During this round, an album taking again some their performances on scene of the whole of their career left, it is entitled One Wild Night: Live 1985-2001 .
End 2002, Bounce , the album which followed Crush , left in store. Although he was not the success of his predecessor, the album produced two individual which functioned well: " Everyday" and " Misunderstood".
After the round which followed and which finished in August 2003, Bon Jovi embarked in an ambitious project. Supposed at the beginning to produce an acoustic album, the group ended up rewriting, re-recording and to reinvent twelve of their greater successes to show them under one day new. This Left Feels Right left in November 2003, the title refers to the change of management taken by the group in the recording of these songs.
The following year, the group left a box set entitled 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can' T Be Wrong , whose title is a homage to the album of Elvis Presley 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can' T Be Wrong . Included/understood four CDs limps on which 38 new titles and 12 rare pieces were, as well as a DVD. This exit commemorated the 100 million sold albums and the twentieth birthday of the exit of the first disc of the group, in 1984.
Bon Jovi took part in the Live 8 on July 2nd, 2005. On this occasion, a new song was played, " Cut has Nice Day" , with the sides of traditional, " Livin' one has Prayer" and " It' S My Life".
Have Nice Day , left on September 19th, 2005 to Europe, and it was followed by an international round which began in November 2005. The album rose in the heights of the classification a little everywhere in the world, arriving even in second position at the United States lasting the first week of sale, reaching more than 202.000 albums sold during this period.
" Cut has Nice Day" was first individual new album and was diffused on the radios of the whole world starting from July 18th, 2005. The second individual one, " Who Says You Can' T Go Home " , allowed the group to be the first formation of Rock'n'roll & Roll has to rise in the first place of the American classification country, thanks to the version sung in company of the singer country Jennifer Nettles. It is a single fact of Billboard. Moreover, this title appeared only in no-claims bonus on the American edition, and only distributed promotionnellement to the radios. A first version, recorded with the singer Keith urban, had not reached the final stage. The third individual one of the album is entitled " Welcome to Wherever You Are".
Shortly after the exit of the album, the group began a world tour. This one, shorter than the preceding ones, brought the group on many scenes and in many stages through planet. In the beginning, the group was to be the first to be played in new the Wembley Stadium, unfortunately, the company responsible for work announced that the stage would not be ready before 2007. The concert, consequently, was moved with Milton Keynes National Bowl by keeping same the dates. They on the other hand were the first group to be played at Stage from Switzerland to Bern, on May 31st, 2006.
After the dates in Japan and in Europe, the group is gone back to the United States for some concerts, inter alia three shows in their native New Jersey, with the Giants Stadium, like in Boston, Pittsburgh, and Chicago.
In June 2007 leaves Lost Highway , tenth album studio of the group. This album wants to be more anchored tradition of the American songwriters , such as Bruce Springsteen . The album was classified number 1 of the sales in the USA the week of its exit, which had not arrived since 1988 and " New Jersey ". The group is subjected to the polemics at the same time following a calamitous appearance with the emission " MTV Unplugged" where the guitarist Richie Sambora, passably drunk, saw himself unable to play correctly. Disturbed by the very recent death of his/her father, of his surging divorce, Sambora was found confronted with a problem of addiction. It went from itself in a private clinic of detoxication one week, letting the group only work with a guitarist of the orchestra accompanying Bon Jovi.
