History

With the purchase of Rotax in 1970, Bomber Inc. had already put the foot in the field but it is in 1974 that Bombardier Transport really enters the railway sector by gaining a supply agreement of 423 cars of the Métro of Montreal. The large one of work of manufacture and assembly is made with the factory Pocatière obtained by Bombardier at the time of the purchase of a manufacturer of Motoneige S candidate, SkiRoule . It is refitted, increased and réoutillée for the occasion. Bomber buys American Locomotive Company (Alco) MLW in 1975 what brings it towards the construction of the engines. The company will produce thus the Train LRC (Leger Rapide and Comfortable) for Via Rail, mû by these machines. However, Bombardier will remain the supplier in the investments in indication which have priority according to the mayor of London. In the same way, the construction of 378 cars for the deep lines envisaged between 2009 and 2011 seem assured, just like that of: 1400 cars of the lines of surface between 2010 and 2014.

But all is not well in the field of transport vis-a-vis a surplus production capacity of production and to the consequences of the Attentats of September 11th, 2001. In 2004, Bombardier thus reveals a vast restructuring plan of its sector transport which envisages the closing-down of seven factories of production, of which three ceased their operations during the same year (Amadora (Portugal), Doncaster and Derby Pride Park with the the United Kingdom).
