Bombardier Produced entertaining ( BRP ) is a Québécois company founded in 1941 by Joseph-Armand Bombardier, under the name of Limited Auto-neige Bomber . The latter became with time the giant of transport and aeronautics, Bombardier Inc.. The division of the entertaining vehicles is become again a company independent in 2004 under the initials of BRP .

Its head office is located at Valcourt in Estrie. It manufactures various entertaining vehicles, of which famous the Motoneige S of mark Ski-Doo and Lynx , of the cross-country vehicles (Quad), of the engines Hors-bord, the Motomarine S and Spyder Edge-Am. The initials BRP which identify it on the logo come from its English name Bombardier Recreational Products . Indeed, the name BPR belonged already at a firm of engineering of the town of Quebec in 2004. Moreover, approximately 70% of its products are sold with the the United States and BRP is retained better in this market.

Beginnings

Joseph-Armand Bombardier, of Valcourt to the Quebec, had the ambition to make winter one season when it is as easy to move as during the three other seasons. He works for a long time on prototypes and has the garage Bombardier . During the winter 1936 - 1937), gears covered with rubber and caterpillars on the aft wheels. It is this system of traction partially out of rubber which makes instantaneously all the vehicles of Bomber highly more effective on snow than all the other metal tracked vehicles which can be invented at the time.

B7 is a success, but it is not enough for the inventor. Instead of selling its patent, it decides to create a company of mass production of autoneiges. He thus moves his workshops in a new factory which can produce 200 units in 1940 annually and founds the Snowmobile Bomber the January 29th 1941 based on its B-12 (1942). They are useful then like ambulance, school buses and of local transport in winter in rural area at the side of the series of B (B-12 and B-18). The advent of the Déneigement of the roads cuts this crenel of sale drastiquement. Industries Bombardier turn then to work in forest and produce large caterpillars of transport.

Later, one also produces large vehicles which are used to ram the ski slopes and of small like the tractor SW Chasse-neige of pavement, in addition to inventing the modern motoneige.

Motoneige

During the Years 1950, several manufacturers produce versions mini autoneiges for one or two people. They are heavy vehicles, mûs by engines four cylinders and caterpillars. However, the motoneige such as it is known was developed by Bombardier at the end of the Années 1950. Indeed, following the loss of a son that J-Armand Bombardier had not been able to bring in time at the hospital in winter, he dreamed to equip people with the rural areas with the equivalent on snow with an individual car. He had butted a long time against the fact that the weight of the engines made the autoneige individual not easily realizable. But after the development of engine lighter and grace also to the use of a caterpillar without fine revolutionist designed and patented by his German son. Bombardier also develops other entertaining products like the Motomarine S Sea-Doo . The company also diversifies by repurchasing companies in the field of air transport and aeronautical. It becomes Bombardier Inc. and the entertaining products are not any more whereas one subsidiary company.

New beginning

The financial problems which had with the crisis in the aircraft industry after the September 11th, 2001 force the group Bombardier to demolish certain activities. In 2003, the subsidiary company of Valcourt is sold with a consortium made up of Capital Bain, Bombardier family members as well as Caisse of deposit and placement of Quebec for 2,5 billion Can and becomes entertaining Bombardier Produced . The yielded activity include/understand in particular the motoneiges Ski-Doo and Lynx , as well as the outboard motors Johnson and Evinrude .

The division of the industrial vehicles of Bombardier , which manufactures the autoneiges, was bought in August 2004 by the company Camoplast of Sherbrooke in Quebec. BRP also ceased in 2006 the production of motoneiges of work Élite with double caterpillars leaving the market to competitors like Alpina S.R.L

Profile

BRP counted in 2005, more 6  200 employees with the Canada, the the United States, the Mexico, in China, Austria and Finland. The same year, the company carried out a sales turnover of 2,5 billion Can.

Museum Bomber

Installed just beside the original garage of the founder, one finds the Museum Joseph-Armand Bombardier in a modern building going back to 1971. It is located on the grounds of BPR . One finds there the life and the work of Bomber since his first drafts until the development of the motoneige and of his fulgurating popularity. Renovated in 1990, one also finds there a panoply of memories of which books and plays. The garage makes also party of the museum.
