Bolex is a mark of camera produced by the company Suisse Paillard S.A. since 1935 with Holy-Cross close to Yverdon-the-Baths Vaud.
The history of Bolex begins thanks to the Ukrainian engineer Jacques Bogopolsky (which it changed into Bolsky), living with Geneva, which designed a camera 35 mm intended with the amateurs, named Bowl-Cinégraph E whose patent was deposited in 1924. It built later the Auto Movies Camera 16mm. In 1930, it sold its company BOWL at the Swiss company Paillard.
Thus in 1933 appeared the Bolex H16 16 mm , from the Car Movies improved by engineer Marc Renaud. The series H the most is known and was produced for the formats 16 mm and Super 16 mm under the name H16 .
Various versions was produced, but the series of the H16 REX with Visée reflex, launched in 1956, most famous and is used as well in the world of the television as of the Documentaire and also of the Animation. There was also a version H8 for the format 8mm and H9,5 for the film 9,5 mm.
En 1971 appeared a version with electrical motor integrated H16 EBM then an electronic version H16 EL very sophisticated in 1975.
Under the name Ribald-Bolex , the firm also produced of 1950 to 1975 of the projectors and the cameras general public 8 mm and Super 8 mm.
Today, the manufacturer International Bolex SA continuous to produce the cameras 16mm and Super 16 and exports them in particular in Europe and in the USA.
Bolex International SA is also specialized in the conversion (transformation) of the old cameras H16 Reflex with the format 16:9 from SUPER the 16, a format largely used by professional environments.
