Coq Hardi was a magazine of a very great creativity, the shortly after the Second world war. It did not use any contribution of foreign data base, and published only original creations. Marijac (Jacques Dumas) had a true creative genius, and only assumed with him several stories, either as a scenario writer, or as a draftsman. He was however better in the first of this employment. As of the n°10, it had created " Thunder on Pacifique" , where its recurring hero appeared, Jim Bang, who was then pilot American Naval Aviation. It would become again cow servant boy in " Saumont of argent". In the same number, " began; War in Terre" on the topic of the invasion of Martians. There, the choice of excellent draftsman A. Liquois had nevertheless been unhappy. Liquois was congédié, with semi-publication, to be itself compromised in the magazine " Téméraire" , which had exalté the topics collaborationnists under the occupation. It was Dut which drew the second episode of " War in Terre". There was also " Three musketeers of the maquis" , which told, hot, on the burlesque mode, adventures of malicious men of the maquis against Germans more than oafs. It was already a little the humor of " large the vadrouille" or of the tele film " Schulz" dad;. Marijac excelled in the humorous feature. Thereafter, in the Sixties, it tried to make appear the adventures of Gallic warriors fighting against the Romans, but the creators of Astérix intervened firmly against this competition. On the same burlesque mode, it created an comico-erotic cartoon, who remained not published.
In the recruitment of its excellent draftsmen, there was Erik, which disappeared rather quickly for same the reasons as Liquois. And especially Rallic, which created " Poncho Libertas" , the Mexican revolutionist, a work of great graphic quality.
There was also Raymond Cazanave, a draftsman with the precise and fastidious feature, which created a history of flibuste " Fantôme" captain; , in decorations full with half-lights worrying, eyes exorbities, hands with the thin frantic phalanges. Same draftsman, in the beginnings, there was " Drive out with the corsaire" a history of fight against a vessel Nazi in the Atlantic, with faces caricaturalement heinous hateful " boches".
Raymond Cazanave was not a guilleret. But there was the character of Lariflette, created by Lavergne, which was definitely more software and humorous.
In same time, Joe Hamman, a true witness of the beginnings of Far West, developed the taste of the young people for America and the Indians. The " was created; Tribe of the Cocks hardis" where could adhere all the young readers, for little whom they give each other an Indian name step yet used. The list of the new warriors was published, each week, in long columns, and then, photographs of the warriors when they were disguised. One received a chart of member, and nice small distinguished, pin' S before the hour.
There was very quickly saturation of the most plausible names. One then decided to join a figure, as for the racehorses (or them e-mail addresses) so that can exist Solitary Bears 2 or River of money 4. The draftsman Wolinski was " Weasel grimaçante" , and Jacques Chirac was " Bison impétueux". Marijac him even, chief of the tribe allotted " the Sachem without plume" , Joe Hamman had his name, like Leni Escudero, and as godfather, Pierre Closterman " Large Volant" Eagle;.
Coq Hardi created also a big competition the Race Alaska-Ground of Fire, of which it was necessary to identify the stages according to the enigmatic definitions of the names of cities, of North in the South of the American continent. The Grand Prix of this contest was a TRUE stay in the USA. But with final, for lack of funds, the lucky winner had a free voyage for a destination infinitely nearer.
In Bold Cock, all was not in data base There was a novel " Spies with swastika " , an aeronautical heading which presented planes little known, headings on the customs and habits of the Amerindians.
This magazine was also the first to present an adaptation as a cartoon of the " Large Cirque" of Pierre Closterman, drawn by Christian Mathelot. This data base has been regularly republished in album, for this time, which testifies to its quality. The series " Sitting Bull" was one of very first to approach the Indian wars from the point of view of the Indians.
