History
The origin of the name is not defined exactly, one can however say perhaps that in XIIIe century this name refers to the patronym of " Boland" , and would have been interpreted thereafter like the " wood of Landoz"
Dice the old one of iron, the man announces his presence on the northern part of the commune and is fixed on a croup which orders at the same time this fertile soil and the way Ornans-Saline.

In 1364, the lord of the manor of Scey thus becomes Jean de Bolandoz. After being itself attracted the lightnings of the Marguerite Countess, to be itself attacked one of the family members comtale (Henri of Vienna) has, this one makes it carry out and confiscates its goods. In 1698, the people of Bolandoz benefit from a Royal edict, to buy the " Justice" village, and of this fact becomes its own lord. In same time, a vicar " résident" is affected in Bolandoz in order to serve its church there. This does not prevent, the village to continue to depend on the parish of Chantrans (to which it is attached since XIIIe century
With the Revolution, Bolandoz, deeply attached to its practice of the worship, does not accept the laws of the Republic. The army will intervene in 1793 but the village will remain " rebelle" until the end of the XVIIIe century Until half of the XIXe century, the village of Bolandoz thrives thanks to an economy based on the dairy production. In 1848, there are three cheese dairies in the village. In 1851 this one counts 620 hearts, at that time, existed three hamlets depending on Bolandoz:
mills of the brook of Rochanon (one still guesses the vestiges of this minotière activity)
the farm of the Turnip field installed on the Coast of Bolandoz (disappeared today)
As well as a hamlet developing near the vault of Notre Dame of the adventures, (itself built on the site of an old maladrery). This hamlet also disappeared, the vault, as for it remained.
Today, the village does not count any more that 300 inhabitants, the main activity remains the breeding of milch cows and the production of cheese (17 farms in activity at the beginning of XXIe century). Places and monuments
Tumulus
Many funerary hillocks were discovered towards the end of the XIXe century, by the archeologist Auguste Castan. These tumulis attests importance of the occupation of the commune at the time of Hallstart (of 900 and 450 av. J-C). Let us quote the circular funerary hillock of " Behind Mouthier" who has a diameter of 5 meters. Among the vestiges found under a stone bed of 40 cm, let us quote: coal, split up potteries, round slices, fibules and other bracelets. All these objects, as those of the others tumulis of Bolandoz disappeared today.
Rock, cascades and mills of Rochanon
On the " côte" of Bolandoz, the site of Rochanon is. One can see on this site, drank walk, the rock of Rochanon, the Virgin of Rochanon (statue of the Virgin located in a cavity in overhang of the road) as well as the cascade of Rochanon. It is in 1721 qu ' certain Guyonvernier living already on the site of Rochanon (étymologiquement: " Rock with eau") built on the ruins of an old building of XVIe century, a small hamlet made up of two building, dwelling houses sheltering three mills and a forging mill (called mills of the Rock), of another building with a sawmill, an oil mill and a ribe (kind of mill comtois being used to crush the flax and hemp)
There a pond was used as tank in order to supply the mills, thus making it possible to the inhabitants of Bolandoz to come to make grind their harvests and benefit from the services offered by the forging mill, the sawmill and the oil mill.
Unfortunately, this very difficult place of access was quickly forsaken for other mills located in more accessible places and at more regular operation (the flow of the brook of Rochanon is indeed very fluctuating). It was thus the ruin for the hamlet of Rochanon which disappeared right before the war from 1870. It subsite today, practically no trace of these mills.
