Bola de Nieve
Ignacio Jacinto Villa Fernandez , born the September 11th 1911 with Guanabacoa and dead the October 2nd 1971 with Mexico City, more known under the name of Bola de Nieve (" Swell of neige"), is a singer, type-setter and cuban pianist. It is probably, with Benny Moré and Arsenio Rodriguez, one of the most brilliant artists that the island of Cuba produced.
Its nickname would have been given to him by Rita Montaner which it accompanied with the piano.
Villa was initially made known with the Mexico. He was success only later in his native land. He then conquered the public of the Latin America, of the United States, of France and many other countries, thanks to his inimitable way to present itself on scene: " I do not sing nor does not interpret the songs, I suis" (" Yo No canto canciones nor tired interpreto, yo soy").
Bola of Nieve sang mainly in Spanish and when it was asked him from where it came, it was defined as Spanish-American. He also sang in English, French, Italian, a Catalan and Portuguese.
With Havana, the cabaret “El Monseigneur” will become his home port until the end of its days.
He dies of a Heart attack in Mexico City, first stage of a Latin-American round which was to lead it to Lima, city which he liked particularly. The writer Nicolás Guillén will pronounce the funeral praise vis-a-vis immense and inconsolable crowd gathered to pay a last homage to the singer.
Some of its songs, in particular Ay, Amor , were included in certain of the original soundtracks of films of Pedro Almodovar.
