Bojnourd

Bojnourd بجنورد is the capital of the province of the Khorassan of North in Iran. It had a population estimated at 181.648 inhabitants in 2005. the name of the city can also be transcribed by Bojnūrd , Bujnūrd , or Bujnurd .

Bojnourd is located in a plain and benefits from a mountainous moderate climate. The city was originally called “ Bijan Gerd ”, gerd meaning city, the whole meaning “the town of Bijan”. The majority of the inhabitants of Bojnourd are Kurdish speaking the dialect Kurmandji about the Kurdish language .

An ancient city was located on a hill at the North-West of the current city of Bojnourd, it is known under the name of Sareban Mahaleh.
