History
In 1683, Louis XIV, King de France, gives to the gentleman and military Michel Sidrac Of the Ford of Boisbriand a vast territory located at the north of the Rivière of the Thousand Islands. In 1740, Marie-Therese Of the Ford of Boisbriand, girl of Michel Sidrac, deals actively with the colonization of the territory. Charbonneau, first residents of the Seigniory, settle close to the Large-Coast.Ten years later, Suzanne Piot de Langloiserie, girl of Marie-Therese, and her husband Jean-Baptiste Céléron De Blainville, build the first manor seigneurial on the Large-Coast where crosses today the highway of Laurentides. The couple will give rise to Therese de Blainville, last seigneuress before the Conquest, which will see with the increased development of the area.
The establishment of a first parish in 1789 concretizes the efforts of colonization and contributes to the acceleration of the settlement of the area. The construction of a church, more north (current site of the church of Holy-Therese), makes it possible to create a new center of attraction. About fifteen years later, one attend the construction of the first public roads, of which the boulevard Priest-Labelle, which was called at the time the Broad outline .
It is necessary to wait in 1845 before a new system of administration does not settle envisaging the election of administrators (mayor and aldermen) by the landowners. The year 1888 marks the advent of electricity in the area and the industrial era begins.
January 1st, 1946 is founded the municipality of Holy-Therese-West. It is about a detachment of the large parish of Holy-Therese who counted in the beginning the current territories of Saint-Augustin, Saint-January, Holy-Monique, Holy-Therese, Rosemère, Wood-of-Filion the, Lorraine and Blainville. July 15th, 1970, whereas the population of the municipality counts 5600 hearts, the Lieutenant-governor of Quebec accommodates the request of this one and by letters patent the statute decrees to him of city control by the Law on the cities and cities under the name of Holy-Therese-west . The council of this municipality, which comprises one district, is composed of the mayor and six aldermen.
It is important to stress that in 1969, the municipality of Holy-Therese-West was held to demolish itself of an important part of its territory at the time when the Gouvernement of Canada expropriait a vast territory for the installation of the future international airport of Montreal which was going to be indicated later on under the name of Mirabel. Thus part of coast-north and all the territory located at north of this way, including the Holy-Marianne Coast, consequently formed part of the territory of the town of Mirabel.
March 16th, 1974, the name of the city of Holy-Therese-west was changed into that of town of Boisbriand by signed proclamation of the Lieutenant-governor of Quebec. This name change concluded a debate started since 1969, between holding of the preserving thesis and the citizens who wished to bring a designation more original and exclusive at their city which had developed with the passing of years in margin of the large parish of Holy-Therese.
In 1994, the Commission of electoral representation of Quebec will sanction the division of the city in electoral districts which will be eight. This division was obligatory since the official population of the city reached more: 20000 inhabitants.
