The wood of Boulogne is located in the {{XVIe}} district of Paris.
It is by covering a surface of approximately 846 hectares in the west of Paris, that the wood of Boulogne is illustrated like one of the “lungs” of the capital. Twice and half larger than Central Park with New York, and 3,3 times larger than Hyde Park with London but 5,9 times smaller than the Forêt of Look after with Brussels. It occupies the site of the old forest of Rouvray; in his heart, one can visit the Parc of Trifle.
The northern part of wood is occupied by the Zoological gardens , an amusement park famous for its menagerie. In the south-east of wood, one can visit the Jardin of the greenhouses of Auteuil, as well as the Jardin of the Pre-Catelan.
The wood of Boulogne is also famous for the notorious presence of Prostituée S and Transsexuel S, in particular the night. A joke, dating from the time when wood was the work place of many transsexuals come from the Brésil, said that the wood of Boulogne was the capital of Brazil.
History
" Bois de Boulogne " are all that there remains old forest of oaks of Rouvray, which was mentioned for the first time, in 717, in Chartre of Compiegne. The grounds were offered by Childéric II to powerful the Abbé of Saint-Denis, which made build a big number of monasteries. Philippe Auguste repurchased most of the forest to the monks of Saint-Denis to create a hunting preserve on the royal grounds. In 1256, Isabelle de France (1225-1270), sister of Saint-Louis, founded the Abbaye of Longchamp. The wood of Boulogne draws its name from Boulogne-sur-Mer, city where Philippe Beautiful the had carried out a Pèlerinage.During the War One hundred Year old, the forest became a reference mark for the brigands; in 1416 - 1417 the troops of the duke of Burgundy burned a part of it. Under Louis XI, the place was retimbered, and one proceeded to the opening of two roads.
After François I {{er}} made build the Château of Madrid (completed in 1526) in the wood of Boulogne, the place became a place of festivities. The park of hunting was closed by a wall under Henri II and Henri III, with eight doors. Henri IV made plant 15000 Mûrier S, in the hope of launching a local industry of silk. His wife, Marguerite de Valois, once repudiated withdrew herself with the Château of the Dumb woman, in the wood .
In November 1783, Pilâtre de Rozier and the Marquis d' Arlandes made a success of the first flight in balloon with hot air, built by the Frères Montgolfier, since the field of the castle of the Dumb woman.
The wood of Boulogne was arranged in park under Napoleon III, in 1852. Initially, it was the architect Jacques Hittorff associated to the Varé landscape designer, who undertook work (creation of ways and artificial water levels). But at the time of the setting in water, certain lakes having been realized inclined, their filling proved to be impossible.
Jacques Hittorf was congédié by the baron Haussmann and was replaced by the engineer Jean-Charles Alphand associated to the landscape designer Jean-Pierre Barrel-Deschamps (developer of the Parc of Hillock-Chaumont) who solved the problem by creating cascades, which corresponded to the style of the “garden to English” of the time. Between 1855 and 1858, the Hippodrome of Longchamp was built on the plain of the same name.
The wood of Boulogne was officially annexed by the Town of Paris in 1929, and was attached to the 16th district. It is however not counted like belonging to Paris to the clean direction, since nobody saw there truly (as with the Bois of Vincennes).
