Bogusław V of Poméranie

Boguslaw V of Poméranie (in Polish Bogusław V , in German Bogislaw V. ) was born towards 1318 and he died the 23/April 24th 1374 with Białoboki (close to Trzebiatów). He is duke of Poméranie Western.

Boguslaw V is the son of Warcislaw IV of Poméranie and Élizabeth of Silesia. He is the brother of Barnim IV of Poméranie and Warcisław V of Poméranie. In 1341, it repurchases the area of Słupsk which had been given guarantees some with the Teutoniques. The February 24th 1343 with Poznań, Boguslaw and its brothers conclude an alliance with Casimir III Large the against Teutoniques. In the event of war between the teutonic Poland and Knights, the dukes poméraniens commit themselves to provide 400 combatants to Poland and preventing the passage by their territory of knights coming from the west from Europe to support Teutoniques. To seal this alliance, Boguslaw marries Élizabeth (° 13331361), the girl of Casimir III. In 1357, it appendix Sławno and Darłowo.

After the death of Barnim IV in 1365, the relations between Boguslaw V and Warcislaw V worsen and a war bursts between the two brothers. Warcislaw, supported by the prince of Mecklembourg, only claims part of the duchy for him. The end of the year 1367, an agreement is shown between the protagonists. Boguslaw V keeps the Poméranie power station (the part of the Western Poméranie in the east of the Oder). The wire of Barnim IV (Warcislaw VI and Boguslaw VI) receive Poméranie Western with Rügen and Usedom. Warcisław V obtains the small duchy independent of Szczecinek which will exist only until its death in 1390.

After 1367, Boguslaw V approaches the Bohemia following the marriage of his/her Élizabeth daughter with Charles IV the May 21st 1363. In 1370, Boguslaw V concludes an alliance with Bohemia. Casimir, the son of Boguslaw V is educated at the court of Casimir III the Large one, which makes it possible to preserve excellent relations with the Poland.

During its reign, Boguslaw V reinforces the position of the duchy of Poméranie vis-a-vis the Brandebourg and to the teutonic Chevaliers.

Of its marriage with Elisabeth of Poland, Boguslaw had a son (Casimir IV of Poméranie) and two girls. Of its second marriage with Adelaide of Brunswick (towards 1362), it had three wire (Warcisław VII of Poméranie, Bogusław VIII of Poméranie and Barnim V of Poméranie) and a girl.
