The territory of the commune of Bogny-sur-Meuse is located at the limit of Cambrien and Dévonien. The dividing line directed north-west-south-is master key by the Hermitage, the careers of the Full Rocks above the Marcadet castle, the brook of Twisted in Tournavaux and Corpia. In the north of this limit, it is Cambrien represented by the stages of higher Devillien and lower Revinien (between 540 and 500 million years). The rocks which compose these stages are green quarzites lights, sometimes white, schists and phyllites or schists gray and green. In the south, Dévonien is represented by schists, phyllites and quarzites gray. The schists or phyllites of Levrézy are often calcareous. The limit is consisted the conglomerate: conglomerate of more or less rolled rollers which were pulled by muddy castings in the sea dévonienne. This formation known as of Fépin corresponds to the marine invasion of lower Dévonien (Siluro-Dévonien). It is old approximately 435 million years. All these rocks were transformed by metamorphism and were folded during two orogeneses (calédonienne, then hercynienne). On Quartenaire, the course of the Meuse was essential in the relief. Alluvial terraces with the Large Dukes, the Stone quarries, on the plate of Janves or in Beautiful Sarts testify to the presence of the river in Mindel, there is more than 600.000 years. Since the heights of the Four Aymon Wire we can admire a beautiful abandoned meander drawn by the brooks of Eparus and Soque with between them the Supposed one of Roma and in the center the top of Beautiful Sarts.
History
Bogny-sur-Meuse results from the fusion of three villages: Castle-Regnault, Braux and Levrezy. This fusion took place in 1967.
Until 1629, Castle-Regnault was the seat of an independent principality. The last sovereigns of this principality were François de Bourbon, prince de Conti and Louise Marguerite of Lorraine. Prince de Conti was a prince of royal blood, his first cousin was not other than the King Henri IV. On her side, the princess was the girl of the preceding sovereign of Castle-Regnault: Henri the Gash. The reign of the prince lasted until in 1615. Thereafter the princess preserved the principality until the date of 1629, where it yielded it to the king Louis XIII.
On the current site of the monument of the Bayard horse drew up the fortress of Castle-Regnault. There does not remain today practically more trace of the building. One can however still observe some staircases cut with same the schist, a cistern close to the monument and a remainder of cut concave turn it also in the schist. During the erection of the monument in 1933, some lucky finds were made: currencies, swords, arrowheads, crockery, and some bones of animals. When one consults the few articles relating to the site of the fortress it is observed that many lucky finds were made at various periods history (19th century, 20th century) The fortress was to be a relatively small eyrie. However according to the various lucky finds the sovereigns was to have a good progress of life.
As an independent sovereignty, the sovereigns gave each other right of coinage. One can still find currencies of Castle-Regnault today, in particular of the double imitated tournaments of the French royal currencies of the time (Henri IV, Louis XIII). As for the principalities of Sedan and Arches at the same time, the principality of Castle-Regnault specialized in the production of counterfeit moneies. The purpose of this servile production was to earn money while producing with less blow of the imitated currencies and to exchange them with their real costs. The weight of the currencies was for example lower than the weight of the currency of origin. Metals used could be also less expensive alloys, for example for the silver moneys, one could mix tin (less expensive) with the money. The currencies all of Castle-Regnault are very rare, with the exeption of the double not dated tournaments and the black poplars. This can be explained by the following fact: The states leashes by this fraudulent production reacted by décriant on several occasions the currencies of the principality and the seized currencies were then redesigned. The double tournaments and the black poplars knew emissions tellemement important that a great part succeeded in remaining.
