Bodh-Gaya
Bodh-Gaya or Bodhgayâ is a village located at a hundred kilometers of Patna in the state of Bihar in India.
History
Bodhgayâ is the place where Siddhartha Gautama reaches the illumination and by là-même the state of Bouddha.
Inheritance
The village comprises a Buddhist complex, including/understanding the Temple of Mahabodhi with the diamond throne (called Vajrasana ) and the tree of Bodhi (pipal or Ficus religiosa). The site of the temple of Mahabodhi was registered with the world heritage of UNESCO in 2002.The first Temple of Mahabodhi owes its construction with the emperor Ashoka, but the building will know several rebuildings, in particular at first century BC, then fine 2nd century and finally at the 4th century. It will undergo also two restorations, the first by the Burmeses at the 13th century, then a news by the archeologist Alexander Cunningham in 1844.
The Buddhist communities of the whole world built there temples or monasteries in the style of their country, one thus finds there a monastery Tibetan, a temple and a Thai monastery , temples Japan board, Burmese, a temple and a monastery Chinese.
The city has also an archaeological museum.
