Bodaïbo

Bodaïbo (in Russian: Бодайбо) is a city of the Oblast d' Irkoutsk, in Russia. It is located on the river Vitim, with its Confluence with the Bodaïbo river, to 882 km in the North-East of Irkoutsk. Its population rose with: 12800 inhabitants in 1968 and with: 16504 inhabitants with the census of 2002.

Bodaïbo was founded in 1864 to be used for the needs for local gold bearing industry. The Massacre of Lena, in 1912, took place with Bobaïbo  ; it made 270 dead.

Bodaïbo accepted the statute of city in 1925.

A known mysterious event under the name of event of Vitim, took place close to Bodaïbo the September 25th 2002. It is allotted to the impact of a Astéroïde or a Comet.
