Bodø

Bodø is a Norwegian city located in the county of Nordland, of which it constitutes the administrative center. It counted 44.430 inhabitants with the 2005 for a surface of 921 km ².
History
Bodø received the statute of city in 1816 and it is now the administrative center of the county of Nordland. Most of Bodø was destroyed at the time of an attack the May 27th 1940. In 1940,6000 people lived in Bodø and 3500 lost their house. Fortunately only 15 people perished during the bombardment (2 British soldiers and 13 Norwegian). The city was rebuilt after the war, work being completed in 1952. Swedish helped with built the western part of Bodø, this is why it is called " Svenskebyen": the Swedish city.
Bodø was in the center of the glances of the whole world when an American plane U-2 was cut down with the top of the Soviet Union during a flight of the Pakistan in Bodø.
Geography
The city is just located at the North of the Polar circle and the midnight sun is visible June 2nd with the July 10th.
Bodø is the terminus of the Norwegian network féroviaire in direction of North, except for the line between Narvik and Kiruna in Sweden. The railway station was open in 1961. The airport of Bodø is located at 2 km of the center town and was open in 1952. Ferries make the shuttle between Bodø and the islands Lofoten.
