Manual Fuentes there Rodríguez known as “Bocanegra” , born with Cordoue (Spain the March 21st 1837, died with Baeza (Spain, Province of Jaén) the June 21st 1889, was a Spanish Matador.

Presentation

“Bocanegra” begins its career in a Cuadrilla infantil , and like Banderillero in the cuadrilla of its compatriot “Pepete” then in that of Manuel Domínguez continues it. It takes the alternate with the Puerto de Santa María (Spain, Province of Cadiz) the August 31st 1862, with like godfather Manuel Domínguez; it confirms it with Madrid the May 5th 1864 with like godfather “Cúchares”.

According to its contemporaries, it courageous and was equipped with a great direction of the honor, but it missed resources vis-a-vis the bull, so that it was exceeded by its fellow-members, underwent many wounds and toréait each year less than the preceding one.

In 1869 and 1870, a blindness prevented it from going down in the arena. Thereafter, become obese and thus private of any agility and almost blind, it torée again, but in an episodical way, until its last bullfight, in Madrid the June 16th 1889.

The 20 of the same month, it attends a bullfight with Baeza during which initial matadors have the worst difficulties vis-a-vis the fourth bull of the Ganadería of Gift Agustín Hernandez, named “Hormigo”. “Bocanegra” goes down then tracks some to bring its assistance, but whereas it is continued by the bull, it cannot take refuge behind the Burladero because of its obesity and receives an enormous blow of horn. He dies in Baeza the following day.
