Bobowa

Bobowa is a village in the Powiat of Galicie in the south of the Poland, attached administratively to the Voïvodie of Small-Poland, located at 18 km in the North-East Nowy Sacz.

The village had before the Second world war a Yechiva , celebrates to be an historical center of the Hassidisme, created by the tzadik (just) of Bobov. In 1900 the Jewish community of Bobowa counted 749 people. During the Second world war, Bobowa became a village of concentration , where the Jews of all the surrounding area were imprisoned before being massacred.

After the war, the Large-Rabbi Shlomo Halberstam (the second) (1907 - August 2nd 2000) reconstituted the hassidic dynasty of Bobov in America. It was the son of the rabbi Ben Zion Halberstam (1874 - 1941) who died during the Shoah. This dynasty, initially installed with Borough Park in the district of Brooklyn (New York), has now branches with Williamsburg (Brooklyn); in Monsey (New York); Miami; Montreal; Toronto; Antwerp; London and in Israel.

Bobowa is also one off two (besides Koniaków) villages in Poland famous for traditional art off Laces-making. Since 2000 it houses year annual Bobbin laces Festival.

Tourist attractions
