Bobby Darin

Bobby Darin (May 14th, 1936 - December 20th, 1973), born Walden Robert Cassotto , was one of the most famous artists of the varieties of the the United States during the years 1950 and 1960.

Biography

Darin was born in an popular environment from the Bronx with New York. His/her father died a few months before his birth, during the Grande depression.

His/her mother had to recourrir with the social assistance to deal with her son. It is only once adult which he learned that his/her Nina sister 19 years, its elder, was in fact her mother. Identity of his/her true father revealed forever publicly.

At eight years, fragile child, living chichement it was reached of rhumatic fever. This disease left it with a weakened heart and the conscience of the imminence of its own end. In order to find a name more " vendable" with the American ears, it changed its name and in 1956, its agent negotiated a contract with Decca or Bill Halley had exploded. However the Rock-and-roll was with its stammerings and the number of professional musicians of this kind was limited. Like other producers, Darin, unknown, were at the captive beginning, constrained to record varieties without savors at the request of the recording companies. It then left Decca while signing with Atlantic Records, or it wrote and arranged for itself and others. In 1958 after poor albums its career spouts out with the exit of its only song rock'n'roll: " Splish Splash ". Instantaneously it became a success and influenced many other rockeurs to come.

In 1959 it recorded " Dream Lover" , a ballade which generated important incomes. Financial success enabled him to require more creative control and in spite of the objections of the entourage to let mature all the diversity of its talent. The following album: " Mack the Knife ", a light jazz-pop interpretation of the Opéra of four pennies of Kurt Weill leaps at the head of the sales and accepted the Grammy Price of 1960. Its innovation was worth also the Grammy Price to him of the best new artist.

In order not to waste time, Darin was interested in BOF. He wrote the credits of many films and played there too. One of these films, intended for its public heart, the young adults, was played with Sandra Dee which he married in 1960 and of which he had a son.

But in search of recognition, it engaged in more consistent interpretations and it obtained the Golden Globe Award in 1962 of the " actor more prometteur" , for its role in Not of pressure . With the Cannes festival it obtained the price of the best actor.

In the Sixties, it was shown many times at the casinos of Las Vegas and engaged publicly in the presidential campaign in favor of Robert Kennedy.

With the beginning of the year 1970, it continued to play and record, in particular with the Motown Records. In 1971 it undergoes its first cardiac operation intended to correct certain dysfunctions going back to its childhood. In 1972, it seemed sufficiently given to undertake its personal program of varieties on NBC. This one lasted two years, then the health issues forced it to stop.

The December 20th 1973, whereas it underwent a new cardiac operation Darin died. In accordance with its will, its body was given to science for the medical research with UCLA.

In 1990, its accomplice of the time of glory, Paul Anka, inaugurated his presence with the the Pantheon of the Rock'n'roll. In 1999 he was elected with the the Pantheon of the authors.

In 2000, the actor Kevin Spacey, an admiror of Darin, bought the cinematographic rights of his history. Spacey directed, produced and played Bobby Darin. Four years later, the film left with for title, one of the tubes of Darin " Beyond the Sea" , (" the Sea "). The film was presented to the International festival of film of Toronto.
