Bob the sponge

Bob the sponge ( Sponge Bob Public garden Pants ) is a Televised series of American Animation , created by Stephen Hillenburg and diffused since the July 17th 1999 on the network Nickelodeon. With the Quebec, the series is diffused since January 2002 on VRAK.TV. In France, the series is diffused since July 1st, 2002 on TF1 and Télétoon, and since the September 30th 2003 on Canal J.

Synopsis

This series puts in scene the adventures mild nutters of Bob the sponge, (which lives in a pineapple) his/her friend Patrick the starfish (which lives under a stone), its grumpy neighbor Carlo the squid, its friend Sandy the squirrel, and its owner Capitaine Krabs, living at the sea-bed, in Bikini Bottom.

Characters

Main characters

Bob the sponge (Spongebob Squarepants): Bob is a sponge living in a pineapple in the sea. Its neighbors are Patrick the starfish and Carlo the squid. Patrick is his best friend and Gary his pet preferred. Bob is very merry and optimistic and sometimes a little too naive and stupid.

Gary : The snail of company of Bob, to express it miaule like a cat. It has a record player integrated in its shell to put environment at crusty Crab.

Patrick the starfish (Patrick Star): The best friend of Bob, a starfish living under a rock and as stupid as his/her friend Bob, if it is not any more…

Carlo Tentacles (Squidward Tentacles): The neighbor of Bob and Patrick. He lives in a Moaï. He hates them because of their din, their stupidity and their disturbance. Also impassioned Clarinet and of classical music, it is deprived of imagination and completely rational. He follows the occupation of cash clerk to the Crusty Crabe . Contrary to its two neighbors, it is turned sour, grouser and ambitious.

Eugene Krabs (Eugene Krabs): Often called “Krabs Captain”, he is the owner of the Crusty Crabe (old old people's home, the rusty Krab , re-elected in Krusty Krab ). He secretly keeps the receipt of crab pies (which is at the origin of its fortune). He is very miserly, dedicating a worship with his first billiet and going until tearing off an arm for a penny. One can recognize through his character a caricature of American capitalism.

Sandy the squirrel (Sandy Cheeks): A squirrel female originating in the Texas which has immigrant with Bikini Bottom. She lives now in an environment of air, under water. Bob and she adore to practice the Karaté.

Recurring characters

Sheldon J. Plankton : it is tiny parasitic which has a restaurant in front of the Crusty Crab which is called the " Chum Bucket". He is the rival of the Krabs captain and wants to seize the secret receipt of crab pie at all costs.
Karen : it is a speaking computer giving councils to Plankton. This one regards it as his wife, but she does not like it much.
Patchy the pirate and his parrot : two actors incarnating of the fans of Bob sponge. They appear in filmed scenes, in 6 episodes, like the Episode lost and Bob the sponge cd. and Dutch stealing or Bob the king of the festival or first Christmas .et more recently in Amis or enemy .
Mrs. Puff : it is a fish-balloon which directs a driving school. Bob is its best pupil for all the theoretical courses, but it does not manage to pass the license practices and always causes him accidents.
the Man siren and Bernard the hermit : two Superman with the retirement. They are the idols of Bob the sponge and Patrick.
Larry : a muscular lobster, rescuer with the beach Goo Lagoon.
Pearl : the girl (whale) of Mr. Krabs who adores being with the mode and popular.
Ball of fat : Large and salts, this fish with glasses is a goinfre and an adversary of Bob.
Roger the Limanda : A new pupil with the very brutal character with the driving school which appears in * Bob, the Rough one and the Mistress

Places

At Bob the Sponge: (124 rue Conque, Bottom Bikini) It is a pineapple, where Bob and Gary live. It comprises a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, a room, a garage (which one sees that very seldom) and other parts which appear only in one episode, like a Library in the episode " Bad Haleine". One can go up on the roof of the house, between the large sheets of pineapple.
At Carlo: (122 rue Conque, Bottom Bikini) Carlo lives in a Moai statue, between the house of Bob and that of Patrick. Seen outside, there are two windows (eyes of the statue). One finds them in the workshop of squid, where he plays of the clarinet and paints paintings.
In Patrick: (120 rue Conque, Bottom Bikini) Patrick lives under a large stone in the shape of dome with a wind vane at the top. To return at his place, the rock is raised. One then sees below a hole with inside a settee and a télévison. In the episode " Parents of Patrick" , the pieces of furniture are made of sand and there are several parts.
At Mr. Krabs: (3541, chemin de l' anchors, Bikini Bottom) Eugene Krabs lives in an enormous black anchor with his/her Pearl daughter. It has a room in which it sleeps in a hammock. The walls of the part in which have returns are covered with various frameworks and decorations. There is also a very encumbered garage.
In Sandy: It is a resistant ultra transparent plastic dome. Inside, there is just a oak in the middle of a garden. One returns there by a hopper not to flood the bubble. In the garden, there are a table of picnic, and a fountain for the birds. The seasons are reproduced: in winter it snows and there are no sheets on the tree.
the Crusty Crab: It is a restaurant where work the Krabs Captain (directing), Carlo (Cash clerk) and of course Bob (Cook) One prepares famous Crab Pâté there, left hamburger whose receipt is kept secret. There are four parts: the room where eat the customers, the office of the Krabs Captain, the kitchen and the toilets.
Chum Bucket: the restaurant of Plankton is only one simple metal bucket. Inside, there are some tables and a part which is used as office. It is there that is the woman of Plankton, Karen (a computer), and all the plans of the robbery attempts of the receipt of Crab Pie. Indeed, the restaurant is located opposite that of the Krabs Captain.
the meadow of the Jellyfishes: It is there that Bob and Patrick come to fish the jellyfish. It is a large plain covered with quite green grass, of some flowers and stones.
Driving school: the school of Bob, where Mrs. Puff works. It is a zone surrounded by a netting comprising a small building for the theoretical courses, a course of control for the practical courses and a headlight. Bob never succeeds in taking down its license-boat. It always finishes in the headlight, which crumbles, and Mrs. Puff inflates.

Comments

Bob the sponge quickly became one of the animated series most popular, with surveys which stress that a third of the public consists of adults, whereas it was initially conceived for a childish public.

Through the behavior and reactions vis-a-vis the company of Bob and Patrick, this series is a true caricature of the world of today (and in particular of the American company ).

Cut scenes

The series Bob the sponge contains in addition to drawn scenes, the scenes filmed with actors or puppets. It should be known that TF1 rather often cuts these scenes to remain within a childish framework during its diffusion.

One can think of the episode the giant Pencil where the arrival and the departure of the pencil are not diffused with the antenna. One can still speak about Bob the sponge cd. where only half of the episode is diffused: one assists, at the beginning, the exploration of prehistory by Patchy the pirate, then with scenes of the life of the ancestor of Bob the Sponge. (the filmed scenes contain errors of history: the scene occurs 100 million years ago, and the men did not appear that there are approximately 3 m.a)

There is also the Bob episode the sponge and Carlo Tentacule where the end is not shown (They show right Bob which says: Carlo not! The remainder is not diffused, even if there is nothing of shocking for the small ones)

In front of the spectacular success of the series, a feature-length film of animation, heading Bob the sponge - the film ( SpongeBob SquarePants The Movie ), was carried out in 2004.
