Bob Morane

Robert Morane , known as Bob Morane , is the Romance hero of a series of , then of cartoons, created in December 1953 by the Belgian novelist Charles-Henri Dewisme under the pseudonym of Henri Vernes for the collection of pocket " Marabout Junior" created by the editor verviétois Andre Gerard.

Conceived at the beginning like a kind of adventurer semi-dispenser of justice (semi-secret agent), the character evolved/moved during his half-century of existence to be implied in increasingly complex adventures. To the exotic voyages, in which mix traditional espionage and adventures, came very early to be grafted topics of Science-fiction where one finds the influence of a close friend of the author, Bernard Heuvelmans, the father of the Cryptozoologie (see Giants of taïga ).

Characters

Morane, Robert (known as Bob )
French with the osseous face, the hair cut out of brush and the eyes gray, nyctalope, skilful with the slipper, then with the jiu-jitsu and the handling of a great number of weapons, Bob Morane, born one October 16th (but one will always be unaware of which year) is eternally old approximately thirty-three years. Orphan of father and mother, it was raised by an old aunt. Wheel floating of espionage and the shady adventure, it has relations in the secret services (like the American secret agent Herbert Gains of the CIA or the man with the gold teeth, alias Roman Orgonetz, secret agent which is sold with highest offerer), at the most coloured representatives demobilized soldiers and in all the underworlds of the world. Bob Morane also cultivates, with a galantery old fashion and a fidelity enough méritoire, a certain number of female friendships. Among those, the journalist with the Chronicle of London Sophia Paramount, Tania Orloff, niece of the Yellow Shade and the mysterious one and heady Miss Ylang-ylang, omnipotent den mother of the terrible Smog Organization, are most remarkable. If the totality of these relations are tender or condescending and always completely pure, they let guess the taste of Morane for the weaker sex. If the great romantic love of its life is Tania Orloff, the niece of the Yellow Shade, which makes them a kind of couple to the Romeo and Juliette forever separated by the uncle from the latter to which both are opposed, but that the niece respects, it is indubitable that the woman nearest to Bob in the spirit of Henri Vernes is without question Miss Ylang Ylang, in particular in the famous Commando terror, ventures in which Miss Ylang Ylang asks Bob to take it along far, very far from this world the insane ones. Request that it moderates by their too great divergences of opinions, but which pushes it at the end of the history to accept the mission and to turn over in this adventure dreamed in the simulator of CIA.

Ballantine, William (known as Bill)
Red-headed giant with slang liveliness, the untiring friend of Bob Morane. Eternally old of thirty-four years, he is chicken stockbreeder in Scotland and large amateur of whiskey ZAT 77. This faithful companion, strapping man, grognard and tonic, call his famous companion “Ordering” in reference to the states of service of Bob Morane in RAF during the Second world war. So with the wire of time this name is less and less employed, it remains nevertheless, kind Bob Morane to be rectified with a note of humor by one: “You know well that I do not order anything any more the whole”, phrases which Bill Ballantine answers invariably by: “I know it, Commander”. To note that Bill Ballantine was the mechanic of the commander Morane during the second war mondiale.

There exists more 80 BD de Bob Morane, republished thereafter in integrals. Five draftsmen followed one another during more than 40 years: Dino Attanasio, Gerald Forton, William Vance, Coria and Francq Leclerq.

Film

A first film of Bob Morane was produced in 1960 by Belgavidéo. “The spy with the hundred faces”, with Jacques Santi which incarnates Bob Morane, was the subject of only one representation on Sunday, January 8, 1961, with the Scala cinema of Brussels and is regarded as lost following the destruction of the single copy during the fire of Belgavidéo.

Cartoon

  • 1998 : Bob Morane . First series animated on Bob Morane diffused on Canal+ and France 3. Was also diffused on Téléquébec (in Quebec), of 2000 to 2005.

Bob Morane also inspired to the song the Adventurer (1982) of the French rock group Indo-China, song taken again by the Canadian group The Kingpins in 2000, like by the group Nada Surf.
