Bob Dole

Robert “Bob” Pares (born the July 22nd 1923) is a Politician the United States. He was senator of the Kansas and chief of the Republican party to the Sénat of the United States.

He presented himself to the vice-presidency of the United States in 1976 as a fellow candidate of Gerald Ford. He will be candidate with the presidency in 1996 vis-a-vis the outgoing president Bill Clinton.

Biography

Robert Dole was born the July 22nd 1923 in Russell in the Kansas. He is graduate in right of the university to Topeka, Kansas.

During the Second world war, Dole is used as an officer of infantry of combat in Italy within the the 10th division of infantry as mountain. Wounded 2 times, he was hospitalized for 39 months. Decorated with two “Purple Hearts” and a bronze star, Dole lost the quasi whole use of its right-hand man because of its wounds of war.

In 1948, Bob Dole Marie with Phyllis Holden of which it will have a girl, Robin, born in 1954.

He follows the occupation of lawyer starting from 1952.

Political ascendance

As of 1953, Bob Dole is elected with the Room of the representatives of Kansas.

At the end of its mandate, it east becomes Attorney county of Russell until in 1961.

In 1960, Dole is elected with the Chambre of the representatives of the United States and will be re-elected there until in 1968 to be elected senator of Kansas. It will be re-elected there until its resignation the June 11th 1996.

During its 27 years with the Senate, he will be in particular chief of the minority (1987 - 1995) or of the Republican majority (1985 - 1987 and 1995 - 1996). He exerts a maconnic career in parallel.

In 1976, Gerald Ford chooses it as fellow candidate on the republican ticket for the presidential election in the place which should have been allocated to the vice-president in exercise, Nelson Rockefeller, which many republicans consider too moderate and on the left party. However, with 48,02% of the votes and 27 gained states, the republican ticket is beaten by the democratic ticket carried out by Jimmy Carter which collects 50,08% of the voices and 23 states.

In 1980 and 1988, he is candidate with the republican primary educations for the presidential election but is beaten by Ronald Reagan then by George Bush father.

In 1996, Bob Dole obtains the republican nomination after having demolishes Steve Forbes and of the challengers on the right like Pat Buchanan and Lamar Alexander.

Bob Dole is handicapped in her presidential campaign by her age (73 years) which makes of it the oldest candidate of the history of the United States. With its fellow candidate Jack Kemp, Dole is heavily demolishes, as waited, by the outgoing president Bill Clinton which is re-elected with 49,2% of the votes (379 Great Electors) against 40,7% with Bob Dole (159 Great Electors).
