Bo-jutsu
Discipline Japanese origin , the bo-jutsu is the Martial art handling of the long stick ( Bō ) in opposition to the OJ-jutsu which is, as for him, the technique of the short stick. Bo-Jutsu is studied separately or in complement of the disciplines with naked hands Karaté or Aïkido, or as integral part of a system of weapons Kobudo or Kendo.
The handling of Bo is similar to that of the long stick used with the Moyen-âge in Europe by the peasants. In Japan, one practices it without particular protection, but the " attacks libres" are generally absent.
The drive is based on the training of the Kata, sequences of engagements codified against one or more adversaries, initially only, then with partners.
The warlike monks of the 16th century made their discipline of predilection of it. A legend tells that at the 12th century, the monk Benkei faced with this weapon the young person Minamoto No Yoshitsune, brother of the Shogun Minamoto No Yoritomo. Having lost the duel, it had been put at the service of the young man who was to become one of the most famous generals of Japan.
At the time of the Tokugawa (1603 - 1838), wood Bo was used by the police force shogunale to face the brigands armed with sabers.
Myth
According to the legend, at the 12th century, the Benkei monk had faced with this weapon the young person Minamoto No Yoshitsume, the brother of the shogun Minamoto No Yoritomo. Then, overcome, it had been put at the service of the young man who was to become one of the most famous generals of Japan.
Masakatsu Bo Jutsu
School of stick created by O Sensei Morihei Ueshiba, founder also of the Aikido.
Various styles
There exist various styles of course. Inter alia, one can differentiate the styles using slid from the stick (influenced by the Yari, the lance?) those of the kobudo of Okinawa, often preferring to hold the weapon with the first and second thirds of the weapon to strike of the two ends.
